not all sounds can be heard

Featured Replies

hi folks, here's what's happening to my fs. Some weeks ago i noticed some of the sounds (engine sounds on some aircraft, not all , could not be heard). I reinstalled FS2002 into a new folder and the problem is here again. The same problem comes with ATC sounds, i can see the text normally but i can't do anything to hear those. I have installed FS2002 with all 10 atc sounds selected. Everywhere else the sound works fine, also the cockpit sound, NAV sounds, etc , all fine. I even tried different sound acceleration options in dxdiag. I am using directx9. I'd appriciate any idea what else to try ? Has anyone expirienced anythign similar ? Thanks !Miro MajcenSenior Managing EditorAVSIM Onlinewww.avsim.com

Check to see if you are missing the Compressed Audio Codecs. If Win98/ME, select Multimedia in Control Panel, Devices Tab, open the Audio Compression Codecs. The files required are:Microsoft IMA ADPCM CODECMicrosoft ADPCM CODECMicrosoft PCM ConverterIf the files are present, click each one, select properties, and ensure the "Use this Audio Codec" is enabled. If the files are not present, select Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, Windows Setup tab, select Multimedia, Details button, enable Audio Compression, select OK, and follow the instructions. You may need your OS CD to install the CODECs.If WinXP, open Device Manager, select Audio, video, and game controllers, double-click Audio Codecs, Properties tab, review the list of CODECs for the above files (abbreviated titles). If the files are present, follow the directions above. If the files are missing, insert your WinXP CD into the CD-drive and conduct a repair/reinstall. If you have WinXP SP1 installed, you may have to reinstall it along with the pre-SP2 updates you may have installed.
