July 3, 200520 yr I cloned (Drive Image 2002) my 80 GB hard drive that contains FS 2004 and addons, to a 120 GB drive. When I booted up on the new drive, Windows XP detected the drive, and started to install the drivers. During this time it was very slow at setting it self up.It finally finished. Now the problem is after a flight in FS 2004, when I shut down the computer, it takes about a minute or two to get to the windows shut down dialog and then another minute or two to actually shut down.I have ran diagnostics on the drive and all test passed.Any ideas? Thanks!Barry
July 3, 200520 yr One of the reasons not to use cloning. First, you restored to the new drive all the sins of your previous Windows Registry and then added to those sins new registry entries that are loaded when Windows detected the new drive. The key was, why did Windows have to reinstall drivers, if a clone was made, HMMM! Windows didn't think the clone was all that smart so it added more to the registry. If you still have the old drive, I would return it to the computer, use the Windows Files and Settings Transfer Wizard under the accessory, system tools menu to save your files and settings. I usually do this over my LAN to another computer hardrive. Next return the new hardrive to your computer, reformat the installation, and reinstall a fresh copy of Windows. Use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard again to restore your files and settings from your saved location. You will have to install all your programs again since the new registry doesn't have them as installed. You will be surprised at the speed of your computer with a clean registry.Lastly, set your old hardrive up as a slave, and copy your programs, files, etc. to a new partition on your hardrive and distribute as necessary.W. July 4, 200520 yr Thanks Mr. SieffertAs much as I hate to do it, a complete re-install seems like the only way to be sure everything gets setup properly. Thanks again for all of your help.Barry
