July 24, 200520 yr OK, I have posted this issue in various Windows XP forums and news groups and NO One has been able to crack it.The Flight Sim community is a good place to post this because all of us have had to deal with OS and Network Issues configuring FS 2004 Wide FS, etc. So the Intellectual resources are excellent on this forum. This one is really screwy.I am having a problem with peer to peer network broadcast, in that in that I can ping the IP address but can't ping the computer by name.I have tried a complete virus scan and I am clean. Ran extensive spyware utilities. Again clean.I have tried:netsh winsock reset catalog (Windows XP SP2)Rebooted and nothing. Same problem, it won't see the computer by name. I tried WinsockXPFix. It reset the registry entries. And basically does the netsh winsock reset catalog command.Re-booted. No go.I can get out to the internet fine. My ISP DNS works fine. The problem is when I try to access another internal machine. It hassomething to do with this specific machine, because on other machines I can see or browse by the computer name.Is there some utility that will remove and reset the registry and restore Winsock programs (besides WinsockXPFix) and settings back to normal?I am at my wits end and the end of my rope. I am really hoping I don't have to do a complete OS rebuild just to fix this problem (The Microsoft Way!). The Windows XP network environment has always been solid, so I don't know why I can't see the flight sim computer or other internal computers on my network for example. With DHCP assigning IPs on the internal network, it is preferrable to specify a name rather than an IP address because it could change from login to login. Thanks in advance for your help.Barry

July 24, 200520 yr Thanks,But I am looking for help trouble shooting from the Windows side to solve the problem, not installing additional networking software. This reminds me of LanTastic of the yesterday.Barry
July 24, 200520 yr The same thing happened to me. Here's the solution (step-by-step too):http://www.careyholzman.com/net1.htm
July 24, 200520 yr Try enabling netbios over tcp/ip. Not sure if that is part of the previous hyperlinked solution. This solved it for me.
July 24, 200520 yr I have tried all the suggestions and the only way left is the Microsoft Way of rebuild the OS.One thing I noticed was that I had no authentication tab on my network properties panel. So something is really boned up on this machine.I wish Microsoft would allow an Uninstall of all winsock and network related hardware drivers and then just reload everything.I have tried disabling uninstalling the card and setting it back up again. I have ran Network Diagnostics and the NIC passed.I am looking at the Transfer settings and files. But I really want to move all the applications as well as all the folders on my hard drive. FS 2004 includedAnybody have any ideas?Barry
