July 29, 200520 yr Just upgraded to 1GB on board memory from 512, and got a Nvidia 6200 (6800?) card for
July 29, 200520 yr What card drivers did you install? How did you remove the old drivers before installing the new? Did you use Driver Cleaner? In the sim, did ou delete the lines in the FS9.cfg relating to the video card before booting the sim and resetting the parameters.?The fact that the card installed as 6800 suggest you're using old drivers, before the 6200-series was released. Thats probably the cause of the problem.Allcott
July 29, 200520 yr Yes No Yes maybe who knows???(lol)Strange thing is that the box says 6200, the updated driver is 6800, and FS9 calls it a 6600.I am senior having many senior moments, so I went to startup and just set all scenery to RESET. Still having odd flashes (and flushes) and now sound is pausing whole sim for 3 sec at seemingly random ATC times.I installed and bought the excellent FS Passengers, and prior to thsi that was working great. Probably still is!Would you recommend a re-install of Fs9?Thanks for help, really really appreciated.
July 29, 200520 yr Hi,Sounds like a driver problem. Make sure you download the latest drivers at:http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.72.htmlBut first you can try to delete your fs9.cfg, so it is rebuild apon startup.MAKE SURE you make a backup of your fs9.cfg, so you always can revert back.If a clean fs9.cfg works, you have to enter all your settings again...Mipmapping should be a 4EDIT:The extra memory you installed, is of the same type and size you had previously? July 29, 200520 yr Thanks for this, I will follow advice. As for memory, I have always used the same retail outlet for memory, and have never had any probs before. I bought PNY 180 266 DIMMS that matched type to original HP Pavilion memory. Very expensive at
July 30, 200520 yr What OS are you using ? Is it win 98 by chance? It sounds like you are vapor locking due to the memory handling of the OS. "Common 98 problem".What happens with 98 and 1 gig of ram, is 98 usesa very small space to allocate resources. IE: ram, video texture mapping, sound , etc, etc.. If you run 1 gig of ram in 98, you will usually run out of space to allocate the resources. When this happens, you will see weird lockups, problems, freezups, etc. There is a simple workaround. Increase your "maximum"disk cache size to near 512mb or so. This will leaveenough room for the mapping. IE: from system.ini....[vcache]minfilecache=22906maxfilecache=515578chunksize=512as an example...Or you can use a program like "cacheman" etc, to change within windows. If you are not using Win 98, disregard.... :/ MK Mark Keith
July 30, 200520 yr Thanks for advice.Sadly/happily I am using XPIt seems to be a run of issues since my new Video card which is named differently from 6200 6600 6800 wherever you look!I have upgraded, roll backed, drivers, gone to reset on Fs9, still crashing sparodically.I will do the Fs9.cfg trick again to bog standard display, and see what happens. Thanks again,
