August 4, 200520 yr I thought this would be the card to beat the complex Heathrow + 100% Ultimate Traffic + real weather setup. My 9800 Pro got about 6-8 FPS in that situation. Guess what - after spending my hard earnt dosh (
August 4, 200520 yr i had similar results going from a G4 ti4600 to a 6600GT and GPL was worse. your bottleneck was not your card but your CPU. i guess like me you dd find you had improvments in other areas, so it is not a complete loss. usually oing from the top end of one generation to the top of the next ill not see that much improvment, although it may well be needed for the next generation of games.
August 4, 200520 yr your bottleneck was not your card but your CPU.Nope. I think that its a driver issue. I have just changed graphic card from a 3 year old TI4200 to a 6800, and are having the same problems. I found out that its FS9 who won't update the type of the card. In my config file it still says that my graphic card are a TI4200. I will find a way to change it, but in the mean time, just control the fs9.cfg for you self. I think the problem is there!Brian
August 7, 200520 yr Hi Alan......I went from 9800 PRO to 800XL and didn't notice much of a FPS increase, either.I did, however, notice that I can now run @1600x1200,almost all sliders maxed, and Flight Environment. Can you tell us what your settings are in the ATI 3D tab,in the ATI control panel? You know,AF,AA,etc......in the game's display settings, make sure that AF is unchecked. You should be getting at least 15-20fps @the airport,I would think. That's about all I can muster taxiing down the runway.....also running 3 gig P4, 1gig RAm,,and I have the DERSPLL Intel board,865P chipset...........Stan
August 10, 200520 yr Thanks for your replies.I got the impression that FS had evolved into a more graphic oriented product than its predeccessors. Last time I upgraded from a 9500Pro to the 9800Pro there was an amazing increase in FPS. I guess for the rest of my system that 9800Pro would have been the limit graphically. I know the new card works fine because of over games I have and also GPL, Bruce! :)However I feel I've made the wrong purchase as far as FS is concerned. To get all the benefit when I eventually upgrade mobo etc I should have brought the PCIe version. Although I don't know what the great difference is between the two :) Just hope when I get a new mobo that it still has an AGP socket lolAlan
August 12, 200520 yr don't expect much, I have the fastest setup out there with an 850xt and don't see good frames flying in the VC. It's just the way FS9 is coded, you need to wait til FS10 to actually see good performance with your system
August 17, 200520 yr Hi there all,Upgrading from a 9800 to a 800/850 (I did the same thing) but I did not and would not expect Heathrow with traffic maxed out to be any better than 6-8fps with any card. Heathrow and lots of traffic is more a product of CPU and memory. 64 bit wil make it worst not better BTW.The best way to think of video cards and CUP's as either an AND AND thing or a texture thing or a algorythm thing. What you say?Ok. You need a better CUP AND a better VIDEO card AND more memory in an ideal situation. That said, I've seen no improvement of having more memory than 1.00GB for FS9. It seems to be the max and adding more does nothing helpful that I can notice anyway. For Heathrow with Max traffic you need CPU and CPU and CUP. All that's going on there is mainly calculations of where things are.I've done a lot of testing to compare the 9800 PRO with the X800XL and at Heathrow the exact same results. Also the PMDG has no benefit of the X800XL card.Where this card beat the 9800 hands down is in clouds, simple aircraft and ground textures and mesh and basically a basic set-up.Expect about 50% more fps to as much as 75% more in clouds and that kind of thing as stated. But start putting up anything that is CUP intesive like autogen, complex aircraft, AI traffic etc then expect no improvement.I don't think dual processors will help Heathrow or AI traffic. You need to find a genuine Intell P6-10GHZ and then the PMG at Heathrow in maxed out traffic will be about 20-25fps but not more.Regards,
August 17, 200520 yr Please can someone tell me how to do this?i also run a 9800 pro 256 mb, but with low screen res (800x600) and have good frames. Thanks, rick
August 17, 200520 yr > >>Please can someone tell me how to do this? You just delete your FS9.cfg file and then starts the flightsim ;-)The file can be found with the 'search' (easy way), and are normally located here:C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataMicrosoftFS9 Good luck!Brian
