September 24, 200520 yr Hi all,I have a ATI Radeon 9800 XT, I have noticed that it has been making strange noises lately.I took it apart the other day and cleaned the fan and heat fins, but it appears to be running hot.Does anyone have any insight?
September 25, 200520 yr I had that problem with the pro 9800It was the fan which is reather cheapy as the ATI stockI bought an ICEBERG4 heatsink/fan replacement (28$ Cdn) and removed the old heatsink fan and replaced with this great new one. Seem to have better frame rates now, and of course, no noise at all.allen
September 25, 200520 yr Hi there,I agree a new fan is a good idea for most 9800's that come with stock coolers (I had a 9800 Pro). I know that some people lowered their temps quite a bit with a decent after market cooler like the Arctic Cooler VGA Silencer. There is a test here:http://hardware.gamershell.com/articles/ar...ncer/index.htmlIn any case: make sure you use thermal paste and ensue that your case has decent airflow.Cheers,Alex
