Question about Wide Screen Flat Panel

Featured Replies

Hello,I am looking into purchasing a DELL XPS 400 with a Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20" Wide Screen Flat Panel. Has anyone had any complications with FS9 on a wide screen panel? I guess that the native resolution is 1680 x 1050. Please let me know good and bad. Thanks ahead of time!Scott

Scott,Good: Well, it's wide screen. Having most of your viweing angle covered adds a lot to the immersion. I have a 24' wide screen and would never go back.Bad: The 2D panel view is stretched as the panels are all originally made for a 4:3 resolution. I don't care as I have the panel covered with additional monitors anyway. And with today excellent VCs I do not make use of the 2D panel at all anymore. If you are proficient in FS panel design you could also adjust your 2D panels to a widescreen res. But this is a lot of work.BTW, widescreen works with almost any of todays 3D games too....Alex

What Alex said. :-)I have a 23-inch HP f2304 running 1900x1200 and it great. As Alex mentioned the 2D panels are a bit stretched, but i always fly in either spot view or virtual cockpit anyway, and when I'm testing I turn off the panel anyway. Other than that, everything else is tremendous.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

I have the 2005FPW. It really is a bargain, and I'm very happy with it. Things to keep in mind:1) 2D panels kinda suck for me now. I'm strictly VC (like the other poster).2) You have to run it at a very high resolution to keep things crisp (the native resolution is 1680x1050). Make sure you have the system to back it up.3) The 2005FPW is famous for having hit-or-miss build quality. There is a lot of light escaping in two spots on the top of my monitor. Not a deal breaker for me, but others I know would be very upset.

How is the contrast on these monitors? I bought some cheap flat screens to put the 2D panels on but I find that black is really just silver and the result is very blinding at night in a darkened room. In fact, I applied auto window tinting to the screens to make them tolerable (lost some color in the process though).David
