Having problems with your Audigy 2 ZS?...

Featured Replies

...Including the famous squeal of death while using certain planes in FS2004?These third party drivers cure it. this is my post pasted over from the FS2004 Forum in case it is of any use to anyone...>For people having trouble with the sounds - I would bet my house that you are all using the Audigy 2 ZS. This card and the creative drivers have problems. The BAC-111 sounds simply shouldn't crash the card like that, and it is really difficult to trace the reason why (other Audigy cards seem ok).I can only think that the problem is down to a combination of creative's drivers and that particular card, because like I say, wave files should not crash the card - they are only .wav files!I now use the KX Project drivers for my Audigy 2 ZS and I don't have any problems anymore - some people actually say the KX drivers are better - you can get them from here.http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.phpThe download link is at the right hand side of the page - Version 5.10.0.3537 seem to be the latest and I have not had one problem since installing them about four months ago - MP3 quality played through WinAmp is superb! You can believe me, these KX drivers WILL fix the crashing problem!Creative don't seem to be able to write drivers for their own cards these days! Shame they can't officially adopt the Project KX drivers!...EDIT - the only downside I have found is that I don't think the KX drivers fully support all those fangled EAX effects that are used in some of the newer games - but I have never missed it. Recently played FS2004, GP Legends, X3, Pacific Fighters and a few more, all sounds were great, full 5.1 support. Music crystal clear through ear phones, but best of all no more crashes or blue screens of death! My machine: AMD4000, WinXP SP2, Radeon X800, Audigy 2 ZS (great card, shame about the official drivers)Rob

There's also a set of beta OpenAL drivers at the creative site that still support everything in games (and thank god eliminate all the bloatware the default drivers install) and seem to work well here. The KX drivers are designed for people trying to use an SB card to do semi-pro music and audio recording and processing stuff...

Thanks Ryan,I wasn't aware of them.I'll stick to my KX drivers for now because I'm not having any trouble, and I don't want to go all through the uninstall/reinstall process while everything is working ok.If anybody else tries them though I wouldn't mind knowing if they cure the 'squeal of death' problem in FS2004 with an Audigy 2 ZS card.Rob
