FS2004 & Widescreen Monitor

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if a widescreen LCD monitor is compatible with FS2004 and if so how well they work? Does FS2004 support widescreen or will there just be the black bars? Thanks!

Hi Carob!I got a great deal on the Dell 2405 24" widescreen a few weeks back. It was one of the best purchases I've made in the last couple of years. Worth every dime. That said, I fly at the native setting for the monitor, which is 1920 x 1200. Depending on the video card you have and how much juice you have overall in your pc kinda' determines whether or not you can run the monitor at that resolution. I ended up also upgrading from an ATI 9800 with 128 megs of ram to an x850 pro with 256 megs of ram. Though not essential, I also then bought a new processor for my pc, from a 2.8 Northwood to a 3.4 Northwood AND then overclocked it to a 3.9 mghz for flightsim. This allows me to run AI traffic at 100% and the addon goodies at near max most of the time.As with any LCD monitor, I find the night sky in FS not to be as crisp as it was with my old 17" CRT but not a show stopper. All in all, I ended up doing some upgrading but it has really been worth every minute. Some guys complain about "stretched panels" in 2D mode. The severity of this will be determined by what resolution you decide to run in, but I have no problem with the slight stretching I see when flying in 2D. I fly mostly in the VC which is unaffected by any kind of stretching. It really adds to the immersion in the program. I have moments of being dizzy from the views and the experience with the widescreen monitor. Yeah, it's like that! Go for it. :)Ed Lin, D.O.S.

I bought a 17 inch widescreen Acer Monitor a couple of months back when my old 20 inch crt died and have found it to be compatible with all my software. I run FS2004 at 1280x768 and really happy with that. I also understand that LCD is more healthy for you in terms of radiation.

Depends on your lcd. If you run in the lcd's native resolution, the 2d panel will be stretched. The VC will be fine.If you run the application at 1024x768, the 2d panel will be either stretched or have black bars depending on your panel's capabilitites.Overall I love my widescreen 2005fpw (Dell), but I'd prefer a 4:3 LCD for flight simming. It is terrific in VC mode though :-D
