Help with Nvidia GForce 6600 Graphic Card Settings

Featured Replies

I just switched from a ATI 128MB Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card to a Nvidia GForce 6600 256MB card. I also upgraded my SDRAM from 1GB to 2GB. Unfortunately my scenery is not good. I need help in tweaking the GForce 6600 card. In the Seattle scenery I get severe flickering on the buildingsMy system is: Windows XP ProDell XPS Pentium IV 3.06 GHZ2GB SDRAM256 Nvidia GForce 6600 256MB graphics cardMy settings on FS9 are:In hardware: filtering set to TRILINEAR render to texture is checked anti-aliasing is NOt CHECKED resoulution is 1280x 1024 x 32bitIn the Nvidia card the settings are: antialasing 8x5 anistropic 16x screen resolution 1280 x 1024 color quality 32 bit image setting = qualityI know that I must have something not correct on the Nvidia card and perhaps FS9, as it relates to the Nvidia card. I doubled the RAM and doubled the speed of the card but the scenery went from very good to lousy.I know nothing about the Nvidia Card, and would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.Stanner

Make sure your MIP mapping setting is no higher than 4. Any higher will cause flickering. The rest of your settings look okay to me.Jim

1) Have you set up an application profile for fs9.exe? When I first installed my 6600GT I had no application profile for fs9.exe and so fs9 wasn't using all the cards capabilities.2) Make sure you have the most recent NVIDIA drivers, v81.98: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp3a)Remove references to your old graphics card in fs9.cfg if they are there.3b) As you have a 256MB card don't forget to set the texture bandwidth to at least 400 in fs9.cfg: TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=4003) This might be specific to me but... Initially, following install of the graphics driver, there was confusing MIP mapping behaviour by fs9. NVIDIA MIP driver settings were not executed in fs9 untill AFTER I had UNCHECKED MIP mapping in fs9 settings, returned to the flight, then enabled the MIP mapping in the fs9 settings. If your not aware of this then seems as though changes made in the NVIDIA settings are having no effect in fs9.NB after disabling MIP mapping in fs9 you might have to exit fs9 and then re-start the program and enable fs9 MIP mapping to see proper MIP behaviour by FS.4) As far as MIP mapping settings go, I have read many people commenting that the slider should not be above 4 or 5. However I currently set mine to full and compensate with anisotropic filtering in the NVIDIA settings and LOD bias (NVIDIA advanced settings) set to "Clamp". However I'm still tinkering with my fs9 settings to find the optimum.Hope this helps.
