February 14, 200620 yr First, the background: I just "upgraded" my video adapter from a FX 5200 to a so-called "OC" 6200. My PC is an e machines with a AMD Athlon 64 CPU and a rather sorry FSB speed of 333 mhz. I'm using Win XP and have 512 MB RAM. Actually, I've been doing pretty well with this PC, getting around 25 FPS with complex aircraft as long as I keep the AI traffic turned down to 50% or so and keep the autogen scenery down around the middle. Now the question: Should I have been surprised when I got a significant *decrease* in frame rate with this newer card? (I was.)My solution is simple -- I put the 5200 back and aim to carry the 6200 back for a refund. But I'm curious as to whether anyone else had a similar experience or have any other thoughts on this. Thanks for any ideas you may share. Great group here!! ...DaveDave JonesFort McCoy, Florida USA

Perhaps check the following link which contains Geforce specs (at the bottom there's a link to the same 'in Radeon'): http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=88&pgno=1As you'll see, the 6200 is a 32- to 64-bit card and the 5200 is a 128-bitter. The 6200's memory bandwidth is only a fraction of the 5200's. If you want adequate performance, best would be to choose a card which scales well with the display's resolution, RAM and CPU. For 1280x, I would recommend a 256-bit, 256MB card (provided you have 1GB of RAM and at least a 2600 to 3000-class CPU). Hope this adds to thoughts, good luck and kind regards Jaap
February 16, 200620 yr Author WOW! Post a question here and you get great answers every time! Pretty good, considering I just noticed that I didn't even post the question in the right place -- should've been in the hardware area.Anyway, Thank you, Japp. As I said the 6200 is going back. ...Dave
