I killed my blurries! Radeon 850XT PE

Featured Replies

Given that we all fight the good fight on this, I thought I'd share a success story. First, the system.Socket 478 3.2 Ghz P4Radeon 850 XT PE (AGP)MSI 865 based motherboard2G ramCrappy old Seagate P-ATA drive (the weak spot)2 monitorsRunning ActiveSky, FSNav, Speechbuddy2My basic problem was the one we all have - when I cranked things so they looked good, various blocks would be very blurry. Eventually I got it so that they we're OK, but they would take a long time to "pop" in, and often one's right up close would stay blurry until I was almost flying over them - very distracting.First step, noodling with my FS9.cfg, here's where I got.[DISPLAY.Device.RADEON X850 Series .0]Mode=1280x960x32PanelAsTexture=0TextureAGP=0[DISPLAY]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400[TERRAIN]TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=20TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=4TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=3I also turned off Lens Flare, for no particular reason. This was basically OK - I was getting decent frame rates except at some places like Bradfield Fisheries at Misty. But the popping textures was really annoying, especially when flying in the mountains. Then, the secret sauce.http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.phpOmega Driver 3.8.221 Released 1/18/2006All I did was remove the ATI CCC (as suggested by Omega) and installed these drivers. I selected Fastwrite off (as suggested during the install) I went to it's tray tool, set 4X/8X AA and AF, turned on Adaptive AA and HQ AF.Tada! Everyonce in a while I will get a little pop, but 95% of the time, flying around between 4000 and 15000 feet, its just perfect. Framerates are 20-30 depending, which is livable. I'm hoping that FSX spends a little more time figuring this out, but in the meantime, I can live with this, which is an improvement.

I havn't got a system like yours but am downloading the drivers as we speak. I get those squares also.AMD 3500ATI Radeon 850XLbla bla blaJimCYWG

...turned on Adaptive AA...If you get artifacting that looks like your GPU is dying (random triangular shapes while in a game) try disabling Adaptive AA. You should even disable it in the Advanced Registry Tweaks section of ATI Tray Tools.Regards,Greg
