March 4, 200620 yr Hi all,Basically my current 9800 pro card has just gone kaput.I'm looking at buying another one of these cards, so I don't have to upgrade my whole system again. Is it wise to stick with another ATI 9800 pro, or are there even better cards out there?I have just found the following:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...#aGX_2d013_2dBGThe:BFG GeForce 6800 GS OC 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-013-BG).... looks like a good card..Any advice from anyone?
March 5, 200620 yr The 7800 GS AGP card gives you the ability to do transparent AA, along with 6800 Ultra performance and beyond (if you like to O/C).The visual abilities of this card for FS are a real plus,(T-AA helps get rid of shimmering objects) but hear what others say about other cards first, ATI is slashing prices.
March 9, 200620 yr Yeah, I just installed a 7800GS card in my PC tonight (the 'XFX Extreme Edition' variety): I haven't had a chance to do much in FS9, but it gets about three times the frame-rate of my old Radeon 9500 Pro in benchmarks (e.g. the Half Life 2 Stress Test goes from 28fps to 88fps).I did do a quick flight in stormy weather to see how that worked, since lots of clouds always dragged the 9500 Pro down to a crawl, and it handled that pretty well.Biggest problem was that it's about 2-3 inches longer than the 9500 Pro, so fitting it into the case was a bit tricky! I had to move all the hard drive cables around so that I could fit it into the case with the end of the board between two drives. Doesn't seem to have caused any overheating problems, fortunately.Would be worth seeing what the X850XT prices drop to in the near future, that's not far behind the 7800GS on most games and a little ahead on a few.
March 11, 200620 yr I am very happy with my X800XL, it is well priced and the prices are still droppingNigelVancouver
