April 21, 200620 yr hi Gregjust recently got an ATI X1900XTX. i'm using the Cat. 6.4's with the CCC. 1. in the CCC in the "Overdrive" section the GPU clock speed is showing 500Mhz. shouldn't that be 650Mhz.? also, the Memory clock speed is showing 594Mhz. shouldn't that be about 700-800Mhz.? bad video card or CCC bug?2. do you recommend disabling the "Catalyst AI" feature in the CCC?3. in the DX diagnostics tool (using DX9c - 2/06 update) in the "video" tab "AGP Texturing" is listed and is enabled. AGP Texturing on a PCIExpress card? 4. during bootup after the WinXP "splash" screen (the one showing the dashed progress bar) but before the 2-toned blue "Windows is starting up" msg. screen, a black garbled screen with white square boxes appears. should this be happening? almost forgot, while the above mentioned 2-tone screen is being displayed there's alot of screen flickering going on while that screen is displayed. once the desktop appears everything looks fine. no visual artifacts of anykind. also, no visual probs. in FS9. btw, i'm using a Sony 21" CRT. the card has dual DVI connectors so i'm having to use the DVI/VGA connector to connect the monitor. could this be the reason for the above mentioned flickering/garbled screens?... bad video card?thanks in advance for your help. happy flyin, fm
April 22, 200620 yr Hi FM,1) What you're seeing is the lower clock speeds of the card running in 2D mode. CCC should run the speeds up in 3D mode. If not then you will have to create a profile in CCC for FS9.2) Catalyst AI is a series of driver based optimizations. Configuring it is entirely based upon user preference. Disabling Catalyst AI will offer the best graphics, while setting it to high will enable all of the optimizations (higher performance vs. a lower graphics quality) to their fullest. Play with the setting until you find the sweet spot for your simming style and hardware combo. I set it to "Low" on my system.3) "AGP Texturing" in the DirectX tab will be around for a while. For the time being, though, the fact that current PCIe bus speeds aren't much better than that of AGP the texture mapping feature of AGP Texturing is a moot point. Perhaps by the time we're all running 2-4Gb of video RAM and enjoy system bus speeds much faster than we are now will the AGP Texturing tab go away. Time will tell. The upside for now is that if those 3 tabs on the DirectX Video page are enabled then you know that your chipset drivers and DirectX are installed properly.4) I've only installed and flown one X1900 series card and did not see anything like what you describe. That system used an LCD and DVI connection, though. I doubt that the issue results from using a DVI/VGA connector (I've used them in past myself without any problems). It could be something as simple as CCC resetting your monitor's refresh rate during Windows boot. Perhaps others will have ideas about the issue. If the card works well in games and other apps while in Windows I think you can feel comfortable that it is not bad.Good luck and have fun with your new card,Greg
April 22, 200620 yr Author thanks for the info. Greg. i will do some tinkering with the Catalyst AI and see if CCC is trying to adjust the monitor refresh rate during boot up as you suggested. again, many thanks for the info. happy flyin, fm
