June 11, 200619 yr The members of this forum have always helped me....moreso than any other source.I have 2 users set up on Windows XP Professional. All of a sudden, when I switch to my other USER (Log Off button to Switch User), the screen "Hangs Up" so that the only way to get in is through Ctrl-Alt-Del. What do you supposed is causing this and how can I fix? I've uninstalled all software that I installed recently, done several Restore operations, but it keeps happening. Going from the 2nd User back to 1st is never a problem. Going to 2nd from 1st is where this occurs. AND sometimes it works...but mostly, it hangs.I would appreciate one of you extraordinary GURUs giving me a hint as to what I can try. Stan
June 11, 200619 yr Author Thanks, However, that fix says Ctrl Alt Del won't help unhang it. For me, that DOES release it!However, I'm re-downloading Service Pack 2 from another site now and will re-apply it. Perhaps something is missing. Windows Update won't give it to me anymore since it assumes I have it. Thanks again....we'll see. Stan
June 11, 200619 yr Author Reinstalling Service Pack 2 didn't do anything to change the situation. This is a wierd problem.... I look forward to additonal suggestions. Stan
June 11, 200619 yr Something in the user profile of user #1 seems to not look right. Take a look in the startup folder of user #1 to identify what is being loaded, when user #1 logs on. Alternatively, why don't you try to create a user #3 and check, if you can replicate the problem. If so, I'd just suggest that you delete user #1 and re-create the account. Much faster and uncomplicated than to troubleshoot the problem.Good luck.
June 11, 200619 yr Author OKSO............You wouldn't create a new account and delete User 2?Because I tried that, and User 3 didn't work any faster than User 2. What you're saying, is to create a new user (3) and transfer the data from User 1 to User 3, and that should do it. Right? Stan
June 12, 200619 yr Author Oh my God....I just read what I wrote, and it sounds like a "comedy routine".Sorry for the confusing post. But I think you know what I mean. Stan
