Opinion on ATI 1600X, please

Featured Replies

I am considering purchasing the ATI 1600X (pro). Any opinions? How does it compare with the older ATI X800X?Regards,MarceloSantiago, ChilePosted on Monday, Jun19, 3:00pm EST

I'm surprised no one has replied to your inquiry. I was hoping to read your feed back also. I lost my 9800 128MB pro to a spring cleaning accident because a shop vac motor was running too close to a running computer ( I was trying to get the crap out of my keyboard ). I had to rush out and get the cheapest AGP to get back online. I am now using a Radeon 9550 256 MB.If I use the trade-up/trade-in deal at ATI I could get $50 off a new card by sending them my old card, which would mean an X1600 512MB AGP for $200.It seems the most logical move for me.

From what I have seen the X1600XT performs about on par with the X800XT. The X800XT has 16 pipelines, the X1600XT has 12, but the X800XT has only a memory clock of 1000MHz, compared to the X1600XT with 1300MHz. However for the same money, I'd rather go with a Geforce 7800GT, which will outperform both cards. Only 12 pipelines, but I whopping 2500Mhz.I just upgraded from a 6600GT to a 7600GT and the results are amazing. My FPS increased from about 17-19fps into the 30-40fps range with all add-ons, traffic, scenery and most settings maxed.
