VC eyepoint problems
JeremyI am familiar with the inconvenience that you describe. To see any view over your nose you will have to raise your seat so you will not be able to see under the wing or to the wing tips. Carenado

Not trying to stir the pot
>I was wondering about that new program on the avsim home page>called live atc chatter or something, now I was just wondering>if it is legal to make money off a program that takes (in this>case) live audio streams that are free to begin with?Let's draw another parallel. How about a program that ports live traffic into FS. FlightAware.com lets you track any aircraft in the continental US that you have an "N" number or flight number of the aircraft. This implies that there is a live governmental ATC feed into their web service. Does FlightAware pay the government for the feed? Since it's free to subscribers I thought FlightAware made their operating money by advertising but there is another money making scheme behind the scenes. They can block any "N" number from public view for a fee, usually over a $1000 per year per aircraft if the aircraft owner wants up to 5 internet addresses to NOT be blocked from view, ie FBOs, limo services etc. These are aircraft owners that don't want, for various reasons, their aircraft movements to be tracked by the general public. This almost seems like a form of blackmail directed at aircraft owners who want privacy from public view.

Determing aircraft range....
>Keeping track of fuel used during a flight is a major duty of>cockpit crews on long flights.Pan Am pioneered "Flight Control Technics" with the early Clipper routes. "Flight Control" is the general heading for controlling a flight in real time as opposed to executing and following a "flight plan" based on forecasted conditions. The "howgozit" chart was a part of Flight Control. The chart allowed the navigator to plot the progress of a flight on the "howgozit" chart to be able to see "how goes the flight" hence "howgozit".It relieved the Captain from certain decisions as to whether to press on with a flight or turn back because of actual winds or in-op engines. Egos can sometimes over rule logic. There are many cases when a Captain turned around based on a plotted line being above or below a reference line on a howgozit chart.Winds are one of the most influential conditions on a flight. The early Clipper navigators used celestial fixes at night to determine ground speed and Line of Position (LOP/speed lines) during the day to read the actual wind. Pan Am regarded these "Flight Control" technics that were developed by their Engineering Dept. in N.Y. as proprietary and held confidential within the company. World War 2 and the government required the sharing of these technics for the war effort.Amelia Earhart's navigator was Fred Noonan who did the survey of the first Pan Am route to China using "Flight Control" technics. He knew how to control a flight so as to NOT run out of fuel. Consequently the historical record of them crashing and sinking on July 2, 1937 because of fuel exhaustion is not entirely true.

Along the same lines of this thread, has anyone tried to work with the Aeroworx B200 passenger windows? Every time I take a seat in the cabin as a passenger I have to look out windows that don't seem to have been cleaned in months. The real B200 uses polarizer

Crossfeed, Engine Out and such as HOW???
We were en route from Fulton County airport in Georgia to Pontiac Michigan. We landed in Lexington Kentucky because we hadn't ruled out bad fuel from the refueling truck and were thinking the other engine could flame out. After a successful landing we disconnected the fuel line at the pump and checked for contamination but it was ok. The company sent down an Aero Commander 690B to pick up the load we were carrying at 2:00 am and I rode back with him leaving the crew with the Lear.AD = Airworthiness Directive. AD notes are issued by the FAA and end up being very expensive. The notes can be limited to range of serial numbers for any components, engines or airframes. They can be as simple as remove and inspect to remove from service. In this case the engine driven high pressure fuel pump runs from a shaft that is connected to the main turbine shaft. As with many accessories that run from a shaft, those shafts have a shear point with lessor diameters that are meant to shear if the accessory fails and jams. If the accessory is not jammed, the shear point must be suspect, either metallurgy or the manufacturing process, because engineering is never wrong ;>).Lessons to be learned : When your shift ends go home, never accept a short flight down south and be back home by 11:00 pm. ;>)

Crossfeed, Engine Out and such as HOW???
Back in the mid 80's I was riding along on a freight flight in a Lear 23 when we lost an engine while climbing through FL33.Before trying a air restart the manual said we had to get down to FL25. I think because of air density which might be common to all turbines just to get the burn started. We tried both a restart with it wind milling at 30% and a starter assist which popped the circuit breaker. Both failed because the high pressure engine driven fuel pump had a sheared shaft. An FAA AD note after that was issued.

Mouse in Spot View
This is just an FYI about my experience with re-activating active camera with my saved original purchase code.I followed the recommended procedure from active camera. I copied the saved code and pasted it into the active camera box BUT it didn't activate. After several attempts, I decided to enter the code manually. I decided to erase the pasted-in code by backspacing the cursor to erase the numbers. When the cursor got next to the last digit in the code, the camera activated. The only thing I can think of is that the pasting process allowed the cursor to jump a space which screwed up the security code recognition.

So, You think your FS9.1 is running about as good as it can be !
I haven't used the service because I'm a tightwad. In your other posting you thought FS 9.1 was running the best you thought your equipment could run it.A Poster on the other forum implied that you send them your computer specs, without charge. It might be that you allow them to scan your computer configuration and settings like Microsoft can do in trouble shooting. They look at and maybe they might or might not think they can help.If they do think they can help, I would guess at that point you pay them for investing their time with you. What we all seek is the most fluid simulation possible with the hardware we have.

>Remains the question, what kind of things? Or are you not>allowed to tell?Don't ya just love it. Why can't we get Col. Sanders to share his secret ingredients for fried chicken or Coca-Cola tell us how to make a Coke in the kitchen. I bet I can get that Bush Baked Beans Golden Retriever to talk for a dog biscuit. We've shared and sent overseas our manufacturing jobs in America, why can't we also share our brain power over the internet for the world too ?

I'm aware of the service and believe it can be very helpful. Some of us need to be taken by the hand when it comes to setting up a computer. One of the few times that I looked into the FSX forum I did notice a testimonial from someone who had a Pent 4 3.6 Ghz machine that was very satisfied with how he got FSX to run but he still needed 2 or 3 gigs of ram.

Cloud9 Phantom problem
It could be an entry in your FS9 cfg causing the sim to crash even after uninstalling Cloud 9.You can try moving your current FS9 cfg to a folder for safe keeping an let the sim rebuild the cfg. If the sim starts with the new FS9 cfg and works ok you can then compare the two cfg's entries . If you find the offending line or entry in your original cfg try removing it and reinstalling it back into the sim, it's especially convenient if you have tweaked your original cfg.

Carenado Mooney - odd thing
I would like to know the answer to this question myself.I've had this happen to me at different times in the past. The most recent was last night while flying the Eaglesoft Citation X.While approaching Centennial airport in Denver I was given a heading of 55 degrees and could only select 50 or 60 degrees. I selected 50 and continued the approach. For whatever reason during a later phase of the same approach I got the fine adjustment back, it fixed itself, like some things tend to do.

LevelD 757 only for FS10
I'm a Daryll too with 2 "L's". Perhaps KDFW should have used quotation marks. He did separate, with dashed lines, his personal comments from the copied, cut and pasted statement that he used to back up his viewpoint in the post.Current FS9 users, deep within our hearts, wanted a Flight Simulation upgrade that we thought was promised in FSX. We do not want FS9 to stagnate and affect our enjoyment of using flight sim but it seemed someone was working against a deadline for the RTM for FSX and the release of Vista with Dx10.When I look at the screenshot forum and the screen shots that accompany files in the library that do not identify what simulation the screen shot was taken from I have to look for clues that identify the simulation that was used for the screen shot.I love FSX water textures . The ground textures look good too but that's due to the texture files being twice the size that they are in FS9. Buying the computer equipment to run FSX is like going into a fast food place for lunch. Someone has figured out how much money they need from each customer to make a profit. No matter what place you choose to go to or what you order from the menu, a person has to spend $5 to feel satisfied.

Airport Ground Procedures...
In the US, the airplanes that operate for hire (money) do so under FAA Part 121 (schedule airlines) and part 135 (on demand non-schedule airlines). The FAA issues the operators certificates to operate under either of those parts based on the operation manuals that are submitted by the operators. The manuals are reviewed by the FAA to meet the regulations for certificate issue. A properly written operations manual will address safety first and then consider efficiency for profits sake. Your question depends alot on what the turn around time is and the cost of jet fuel for the APU vs ground based electrical. You can bet the operations manual will have a section covering this and probably a graph showing how long the airplane can remain powered down at a given outside temperature.

VATSIM
I was wondering if there are any servers or plans for any servers to hook into real air traffic something like Tile Proxy does for scenery. FlightAware.com is live tracking of air traffic in the continental US which has a feed from ATC for their mapping. I don't see why it couldn't be interfaced with flight sim. Same thing for the car racers. If the broadcasters can track each car on the track during the race why couldn't someone who is into sim racing join the real race in real time?

HDTV and flight sim
The salesman said that broadcast HDTV was going to be broadcast in 720p. I think using it as a TV should be the first consideration for me. He also said that the only applications now that could use the 1080p were some gaming applications, design programs and the HDTV / Blue Ray players. 1080p has an additional cost over the 720p which I think I would rather use the money to get a set with a contrast ratio in the 6000 to 8000:1 range.thanks for your feedback.

HDTV and flight sim
There's about a year left before the TV broadcasting system changes over to digital. I am considering the big step of bitting the bullet and buying an HDTV LCD 720p in the 32" inch range. Contrast ratio will be a prime consideration in the decision.Since my computer is in the same room as my tv I was wondering if anyone is using their HDTV for flight sim because they do come with a VGA connection. This is one more consideration that might just kick me over the line into buying.thanks

Three more Catalina Textures for Free
Just a suggestion even though I don't have the airplane which has always been one of my favorites.Jacques-Yves Cousteau had a PBY for his Cousteau Society. One his TV programs had it flying in Africa and I believe it traced the source of the Nile by air for that program. They filmed at times from one of the bubbles and I think that was the first time that I ever saw the wing vortex swirl a cloud after passing through it.One of his sons, possibly Philip, was the pilot and subsequently was killed I believe off the coast of Spain when it crashed.Color documentation might be found by searching the Cousteau Society.
