October 6, 200619 yr Hi guys,Im thinking about building a new system because the one i currently have is a bit dated.MSI K8N Neo4 v1AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice @2.2ghzCrucial 1gb (2x 512mb) DDR333 PC2700ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256mb PCI-E1x 200GB Hard DriveIm thinking of this system:MSI P965 Neo-F Core2Ready Skt775Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 LGA775 2.4ghzCorsair 1GB DDR2-800 PC2-6400 DIMM 240-PIN (probably have two of these)Leadtek GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-E)1x 200GB Hard Drive (from my current system)Also will this possible system need a new PSU, currently i have a 400W PSU that came with the case. All i know is its a 400W SmartPower2.0.Will this system be good enough for FS9 and more importantly will it be able to run FSX 'smoothly' (hard to tell, i know). I know the DX10 cards are being released soon but i think its better to wait a while, because im guessing the price would be too silly. So i think the graphics card will do for a good while.I would like to know what you guys think about this new system and is it a good platform to build on especially with the LGA775 socket and DDR2 slots? Thanks for any advice ;-) Chris:-wave
October 7, 200619 yr Looks pretty nice to me, although if you are thinking FSX you'd better go 2G of memory to plan for future addons. Whether such a config will give you "smooth" FSX is yet to be clarified, but certainly it will do a lot better with this new title than your current system will at the same FSX settings. You may scrape by with your 400W PSU, but if things get a little unstable after your upgrade you may want to upgrade your PSU to over 500W.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
