How about an ATI 1600x 512mb card for FSX?

Featured Replies

I currently have a Geforce 6800 - 128mb video card on my PC. FSX definately needs more than 128mb's of video memory so I'm looking at replacement options. I have an AGP board, so this is the best card I can find that will work, and it is a pretty decent price, any thoughts?http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetai...10071702&catid=

I agree with the assesment concerning memory. I have a 9800pro 128MB and using the memstatus tool I'm always between 128 and 256mb. However I'm not so sure that over 256mb is a good investment, not least on my set up. I started off looking at a 7600gs with 512, but felt the performance trade off too great. I'm now looking at a 7600gt 256mb which may be better or may be not in terms of processing power than a 1600x. It's hard to draw a conclusion looking at benchmarks for other games. Even with the gt, I don't think I'll be able to turn on enough to blow the 256mb. The buck will then stop with my athlon xp 2000. That won't be replaced until next year, when we find out how well fsx can relate to vista, dx10 and multi core processors. The other thing the 7600gt has going for it is good power consumption, 2/3 that of my current card, so no new psu's required!

The X1600 Pro is a terrible card and is only on par performance wise with a 9800 Pro.512mb video RAM is only any good if the card has the horsepower to use it. This one does not.......Your current 6800 is as good as if not better than the X1600 Pro.Save your money and get a 7800GS if you still want AGP or a new mobo and PCI-e card.
