October 30, 200619 yr Hi all!I have just bought an FSX Deluxe. Until now I had an FS9 with tons of payware and freeware addons. I run on a Radeon X850XT Pro on a 3.0Ghz P4HT with 512 DDR-2 RAM. I have enough power for my FS9. For example, I can fly into, say, FlyTampa Dubai in a VC of a Level-D 767, with max AI traffic, max detail AS6 weather and all other settings set at max and won't have significant frame rate lags. If I overclock my card a tiny bit it becomes even better. Now, with FSX, at max setting, but no addons and no significant weather, I get the worst frame rate lags ever!! Switching between views takes ages! Is the FSX really that much of a graphic advance over the FS9 so that even my $850 video card is no match for it anymore??? Or am I just lame and doing something wrong?? Please advise. I was really looking forward to buying forthcoming addons for FSX but the way things look now I won't even be able to run it properly in default without spending few more gran on a new PC?!?!Thank You.
October 30, 200619 yr I'm certainly no expert but if I were you, I'd invest in more RAM. I suspect 1GB is a bare minimum and 2GB or more is even better. R-
October 30, 200619 yr Hi,I think Ron is correct, adding some RAM should help, BUT there isn't a rig out there now that can run FSX maxed out. Turn down your settings and check some of the tweaking threads in this forum.
October 30, 200619 yr Yes sir you need a gig or more, also im in the same boat that you are in , i also have a ton of add-ons from FS9, im sticking with FS9 until i update my system. im waiting to next year when the new hardware And vista comes out.i run a 8 monitor set up, with six computers and it will cost to much to get back up to speed in FSX, i will collect all the new hardware and software and then move over to FSX, and that will be exspensive. And besides im letting the dust settle before i go hog wild with FSX.But sir with 512 of ram you do not have enough room to run XP , and FSX and any other software running at the same time, im also wondering how much of an improvment you would have had if you had more ram when running FS9............Robert
October 30, 200619 yr I agree with the others. Just think about it - you had to wait three years to get the hardware to run FS9 with sliders to max.The same is true of FSX, but even more so.Allcott
October 31, 200619 yr Thanks all for the help. I'll get some more RAM for time being. Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone tell me if Windows Vista will require some sort of new RAM chips? Sort of like when it switched from RD to DDR, etc...Reason I'm asking is that if it will use same RAM chips (DDR2) then I would just by a load of it now for future use.Regards
