November 4, 200619 yr I am thinking of building my system and still not sure to get a 7600GT 256Mbyte or 7600GS 512Mbyte. On the forums some say that FSX needs alot of video memory but others say a fast card is better. The 7600GT is faster but less memory. Can somebody advise what is best and possibly a PSU that can handle also 2x HD and DVD as well.
November 4, 200619 yr We cannot advise you without knowing what the rest of the system shapes up like? It's important to `component match` to get the best out of all the elements. If you are building a mid range system then the extra performance of the 7600GT will be totally unnoticeable.Specifically for FSX, it's still heavily CPU-limited and the rendering is more a function of shifting huge volumes of textures into and out of the sim so the 512meg card would be a better bet. If you are using the card as a stopgap and plan on spending a large amount on CPU, mobo, RAM right now then the GT may get you better performance until the DX10 cards and Vista, and the FSX patch mean you need to upgrade again. Please be more specific. On the PSU front, if you plan on using the PSU with Vista and DX10 at any point in the future then you need an absolute minimum of 450 watts. Personally, I'd invest a few extra bucks in a 650w supply - it runs much cooler when not under load, will deliver a stable voltage more easily than a stressed lower-performing unit and will almost certainly have a separate rail specifically to supply clean feed to the GPU.Allcott
November 4, 200619 yr Thanks for you prompt help, this is what I am planning to buy:-Motherboard: ASUS P5WDG2-WSCPU: Core Duo 6600Memory: 2 Gbyte Corsair PC800 DDR2 XMS Memory or 2 GByte Corsair 1024MB TwinX,5-5-5-12,64MX8 (not sure what is best)HD: Sata 160 Gbytes (one for the time being)Do not know better if I buy a cooler for the processors.
November 4, 200619 yr I've been looking at a new system with that MB myself. I have not been albe to get a definitive asnwer is a DX10 card will fit on it out in the future.Have you found any answersBob (Las Cruces, NM)
November 4, 200619 yr This is something that I do not know another option is one with the Nvidia chipset but I am not sure wheather using a non Intel chipset is a good idea. My past experience with other chipsets (non Invidia) is not good. Could be that here on this forum someone will shed some light. I am looking at a system at a cost of around $1800 that is my total budget.
November 4, 200619 yr Motherboard: ASUS P5WDG2-WSCPU: Core Duo 6600Memory: 2 Gbyte Corsair PC800 DDR2 XMS Memory or 2 GByte Corsair 1024MB TwinX,5-5-5-12,64MX8 (not sure what is best)HD: Sata 160 Gbytes (one for the time being)well cpu is great good choice will overclock well ...the ram is great for gaming as well but u might want to think about this ram instead....http://www.memory-configurator.co.uk/produ..._kit/index.htmlit has the ability to clock if needs be right down to lower timings and still be up high in the ,mhz for the fsb...HD think about a western digital raptor 10,000rpm 150gb.motherboard again is a great choice, its what i was going to get originaly but chose the Abit aw9d max in the end..Gfx card, either wait a few mnths for dx10 cards to settle down and choose the best, or just go for a dual gpu nvidia card 7950 gtx2 thingy.... Thats my 2 pennies worth :)cheers,James..
