I guess with FSX just coming out we all have our concerns over what we can do about our frame rates. I just built a system with the 8800 card and the newest quad core. You can take a peek a boo if you are interested in the proformace in FSX...Mike http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=30478

Nice rural setting. I get those FPS on my lowly C2D out in the boon docks too, and you'd have 3 out of 4 cores doing nothing much! Now plonk her on runway 32R at KSEA with all settings ultra high minimum and shasha (show us your) FPS!Gary

Those are not 1m resolution ground textures. 2m is what I'd guessLawd Knoze what it would take to run the sim flat out!Allcott

Hello,Congratulation for your System. It will surely take much more Benefit from Applications that are running w/o or additionaly to the FSX.I only have a Single Core (Athlon 64 3500+) with 1 GB of DDR-Memory and a ATI Radeon 1900XT with 512MB. But I tried your Settings (also with unlimited Framerates). As you can see at the attached Screenshot there is no Problem for me also to produce more than 50 Frames/Sec. (was pending between 48 and 76 Frames/Sec for the Screenshot) with your FSX-settings and all my Graphiccard settings maximized). But for this I had to select a Region w/o many Mountains, w/o a too crowded Area, w/o Autogen vehicles, w/o visible Autogen Aircaft- and Boat-Traffic and w/o Clouds on the Sky. All these things where also not visible at the Screenshots from the Article linked by you.I don't think that the FSX can take a measurable Benefit from the Quadcore. This was still often discussed here. Only the Frequency of the always for 95% of FSX-Tasktime used first core (or the Frequency of a Single-Core System) is important for the FSX. And my 1 GB of memory is also not the Limit here. This gets only a factor if you fly at very complex Regions and/or if you like to run more than the FSX-Application per time. The most possible FSX-Improvements at the Moment are to use Medium- or Highend - Graphicscards with 512MB, to tweak the Size of the FSX-Textures for Autogen Vehicles and Objects if you want to fly with acceptable Framerates in crowded Areas with crowded Airports and to avoid autogen Aircrafts and Vehicles were ever possible for an acceptable Framerates.Always happy landings Heinz-Werner Arens
