November 23, 200619 yr Hi Guys, I have just renewed several components on my machine as you will see from my spec but i'm still only getting 10 - 15 FPS in fsx. I would of thought i would be in the 40's by now. Can someone please advise me what is holding my system back? I was thinking maybe changing the processor to a dual core but would that make much difference. I am desperate for some direction here.Full ATX Case ECS NForce 4 A939 K9 MotherboardAMD (San Diego) Athlon 64bit 4000+ 939pin3 x Kingston 1GB DDR 400MHz/PC3200 2 x 250gb WD Sata HDDXFX Nvidia 8800GTXNEC DVDRWNEC DVD700W Silent PSU with 120mm Fan2x 80mm Case fansKind regardsDaren Tech Spec: Intel I7 6700k @ 4ghz / ASUS Z190Pro / Nvidia GeoForce GTX 1080 4095mb / Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000 / 3 x Samsung SSD 1TB Windows 10 64bit
November 23, 200619 yr Spend some time reading these forums. It might save you a fortune.First place to check would be the RAM. As we have pointed out previously, you might get a massive improvement by removing the third stick and going with just two gig in the first two slots.Dual core will not help. The 8800GTX will not help.Vista will not helpACES releasing a patch for FSX may help, but that won't be for some time.Allcott

It will also allow you to run high levels of AA and AF which will greatly improve your visuals at little or no loss to fps.Vista may help actually as some people are saying that the game runs smoother under vista. I am waiting for nvidia to get on the stick and release their vista rtm drivers for the 8800 cards though before i install it. Next week hopefully i will know if vista runs fsx better. There will be no patch from aces to improve performance. A dx10 patch in 3-6 months perhaps but it won't give any performance increases. It's up to the user to make this thing run better through a whole host of upgrades, tweeks, and voodoo prayer. As long as it keeps selling the way it has been then there is no incentive for MS to patch it. Business 101.
November 24, 200619 yr um, hate to rain on your parade, but loads of guys have posted on here saying 8800s don't help, oh and 8800s, gts in particular are sure to plummet in price as in some benchmarks they are not much quicker than the 1950xt and the fact that the r600 is imminent.imo 8800s are a very bad buy at the moment (and i'm desperate to get one).I have yet to find a hardware combination that would be guaranteed to run fsx remotely well.
November 26, 200619 yr I know which of those items you have that is the bottleneck: It is FSX that is the trouble, remove it and your troubles are gone.al
