7900GS KO + AMD 64 3500 = good enough for FS9?

Featured Replies

I currently purchased a E6600 machine which i'm using for FSX and my graphic work. I have a AMD64 3500+ with a old X 800 GTO card which was overclocked and is running into some problems. I was wondering, if I updated to a EVGA 7900GS KO would my FPS improve in FS9 compared to my X 800 GTO? The reason why i'm interested in the EVGA card is because it's so cheap for a pretty good card. Plus my machine is still good enough for FS9 and the other problem is I have close to 10gb's of add-on's and aircraft for FS9 which I don't want to move to my E6600. Any help would be great.

You'd only see a marginal improvement in FPS by upgrading to a 7900GS. FS9 is very CPU bound, especially when FPS really counts in complex situations, and video card makes very little difference in these situations. Something like a 7600 instead would do just fine.Gary
