AHCI or IDE

Featured Replies

I am building a new system and installing a single 320gb sata hard drive. I do not know if I should set the BIOS to IDE and let the native Windows drivers install or use the AHIC Bios setting and install the sata drivers. Is one faster than the other? Are there any advantages to one other than the other. Really need help on this so I can continue the build.(I am not interested in using any Raid setups)Thanks Chuck

G'day Chuck,I had exactly the same dilema. In the end I set the bios to IDE as the port I decided to use was under the control of the intel southbridge chip. Other ports were available but these ports were controlled by the on board Gigabyte sataII chip and required the loading of the Gigabyte Sata II driver. Since I didn't want RAID or AHIC the first option was the simplest.Roger
