February 21, 200719 yr Hey everyone, I did a quick search for this problem but didn't see anything. I'm going to bet its been asked and answered befor so please don't shoot me :)Have a duo core system running vista 64 4gigs of ram 256video card and a system index number of 4.0When FSX runs watching the system meter in my side bar core1 runs at 100% and core at 0%, they say FSX was build for vista so is there some tweak some where I need to do so that it will use both cores and run a little better then it does now?Dave
February 22, 200719 yr Unfortuately, FSX is not optimized to use multi-cores. There is no driver, tweak or patch to change this. This might change with FSX SP1, but I wouldn't hold my breath.Vista and application threading for multi-cores are two seperate things.Hope this helps,Pat
February 22, 200719 yr CPU evolution essentially stagnated once we hit about 3 GHz several years ago. I doubt FSX will ever be playable until they implement multi-core support, because this is clearly where personal computers are headed with quad-core coming up and no doubt octa-core within several years. -
February 22, 200719 yr Yep, what really surprised me that MS has totally failed to notice the "vision" for multi-cores. Just like they underestimated the evolution of the Internet about 15 years ago.I am really surprised that a company like MS is not in close contact with hardware manufacturers (especially CPU manufacturers). Phil Taylors (PM for FSX) blog somehow indicated that they didn't know about multi-cores until late 2005.It is not that Intel/AMD came out with dual cores and generated a huge surprise. The CPU roadmaps of AMD and Intel are set years in advance and anyone who can read a website was aware that this would be coming. Disappointing for sure.Pat
February 23, 200719 yr Muti threading is not as simple as a recompile. As i understand it, it's a whole new way of coding, and not something that you just do overnight. They would have needed to throw out most of the code and start fresh to be fully multithreaded, not a business decision that I would have made either.
