LCD Monitor woes

Featured Replies

Hi guys,I've just invested in 2x 22" ASUS MW221U monitors for FSX.http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?ASU-MM221I'm getting dreadful patterning in the props of the stock aircraft when looking out of the VC through the prop. It looks just weird and is most noticeable when the prop is against blue skys, with patterns and purple colours showing up.These monitors are being sold as suitable for gamers and having fast refresh reates, seems to me this is something to do with refresh rate as I have tried changing my graphic card settings and the built in modes on the monitors but still see this really irritating effect.Any views? I'm seriously contemplating bouncing these back as they are currently unusuable with FSX.Many thanks,Gemma

On paper those should be good monitors..fast response time, high brightness and high contract ratio.. Never seen them in action so can't really comment. If it was happening on one monitor then I'd suspect a fault but if its on both then it looks like they're not up to the job.Bounce them back if you can get a refund go for the DELL 22"http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/produ...kdhs1&sku=88221or if they'll only exchange then you'll have to go for the Viewsonichttp://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpag...?vie-2230wm&P=1Jim

Running everything in 32bit color?Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

I checked, desktop, FSX, CCC all set to 32bit colour - same problem looks like patterns/colour blocks in the rotating prop. Tried everything with the card from setting back to default and switching all options on and off/settings high/low etc. Have also tried native/non-native resolutions and all monitor preset modes (again) it is always there and nothing seems to make it better (only worse!)Jim, have you seen the Dell 22" monitors on both 8800GTX and X1950 XTX? I've requested a full refund on the grounds that the ASUS monitors are not fit for purpose i.e. for gaming as advertised, will be interesting to see the response! If anyone else is getting good results with the ATI card and a 22" monitor let me know which ones to look at!

Looks like a very nice monitor and the reviews were good. Is your image problems only with FSX or does it happen to every program on your system? If it's just FSX, I suspect that's the problem. Check your FSX settings and make sure your ATI video card is properly recognized (FSX does a very good job doing this but sometimes it could run into problems as it happened in FS9). Set the resolution settings to the monitors highest resolution (1680x1050). Make sure you have the latest video card drivers for ATI and they have been properly installed (run dxdiag). Check your ATI video card settings and make sure mipmap detail level is set to high quality and your Direct3D settings have a checkmark next to "Support DXT texture formats". Are you using the DVI or VGA video inputs. DVI is best IMHO. You may have done some of what I recommended but I just wanted to make sure. Hope you can find a solution soon.Best regards,Jim

Hi Jim(2)I'm running at 1680x1050 and have the only ATI drivers that seem to work with the X1950 XTX (later ones are unstable). Have all the settings as suggested and use DVI inputs.I do not get this on my 20" BenQ monitor which the ASUS monitors were ment to replace, it works just fine. I've also had the BenQ and ASUS clone the screen on the X1950 XTX's dual outputs, BenQ looked fine as usual, ASUS gave the problem. I only see this in the FSX props, but then again this is the only gaming programme I run on the rig so it is difficult to know if this is just an FSX issue! Certainly the prop is the only constant animation in the sim and that causes the problem. Otherwise the monitors look absolutely fantastic. Would be nice to find a solution though rather than refund but I'm running out of options!

>Jim, have you seen the Dell 22" monitors on both 8800GTX and>X1950 XTX? Short answer...No!Long answer...Don't have an X1950XTX but do have the 8800GTX. Have used them on Dell 20", W24" and W30" and are all really good. The Dell 22" is a relatively new model so haven't seen them in action yet!RegardsJim

I am using the Dell 27" with ATI X850xt.....FANTASTIC.Abe

Just an update on this. The explanation given was that my practically brand new graphics card is failing which explains the artifacts - er not as it works fine with the BenQ monitor. So they are being well and truly bounced - I hope to get a full refund (shame they are nice monitors). Dell here I come!
