Nvidia 8800 best driver settings for FS9

Featured Replies

Hello fellow simmers,I've downloaded and installed the new Nvidia drivers 158.19 but my FS9 looks horrible like the AA is not working (though I disabled it in FS and make it X16 in the Nvidia settings). So I reverted to the 97.94 but I've got the feeling I missed something in my settings.Does anyone can put in his favorite Nvidia settings from the Control Panel? The all list, so I will make sure I didn

Greetings Shay!A few days ago I bought a new rig including a Nvidia 8600GTS, and I had the same worrying "anti-aliasing experience" with the same drivers. A bit of experimenting did the trick: in contrast with previous experiences and instructions, this driver/card combination requires taking care of the settings in NVidia control panel (mine's also 16x) AND anti-aliasing in FS9 turned ON!The results on my rig are truly spectacular.Hope this helps.Jaap Verduijn.PS: You can max out ALL relevant quality settings in Nvidia control panel.

Thanks for the tip. I havent tried it yet but I would let you know the results.BTW, i will still appreciates to have you entire card settings since I still dont sure I''m doing it right. Thanks,Shay

Shay,I did 2 screenshots of my CP settings for ya...for some reason you can't see all settings at once.http://exmixer.com/NvCP1.jpghttp://exmixer.com/NvCP2.jpgNote what Jaap said about *enabling* AA in FS9...goes against everything we've always known, but works great with the 158.19 drivers on the X6800/EVGA 680i/BFG 8800GTX rig. EDIT: In the past I've had a real problem uploading .jpg's here so these files are linked to my site. They're tiny (~34KB each). EDIT #2 : This is with FS9/XP Pro SP2jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/]Windows utility links/FS 2004[/a]

Guys, you are the best. The results are indeed spectacular. Though I'm still puzzled how this can be! Shay

... not sure if it would be much of an issue in FSX or not, but in some games not having VSync enabled will cause a "tear" where the top and bottom halfs of the frame don't match up from time to time.

I am having the same issues as other people with these drivers in that i get terrible shimmering. I have my CP set just like you suggested and the AA and filtering set in fs9 and its just terrible IQ with awful shimmering. My problem is the filtering is not being applied but the AA seems to work. I need to enable AF and there is no check box for that in the sim.

I forget the name of the new game out. Anyway it had a bunch of issues CTD's etc.I just read on another site that the NV Quadro driver 160.xx cures it's ills. 3dgaru's site claims it works great with 8800/GTS/GTX cards?I think the game is Planet something or other.Maybe it's worth checking out.

I just got my 8800GTS and had EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!! (158.19)I turned on AA in FS9 and the CP. All fine now but that's the first time I have ever had to activate AA within FS9. Not complaining, it's a great card though!

I'll stay with 158.19 for now. I've been ATI for years so getting used to Nvidia again and what's good and what's not in the Forceware.####, it was Detonator when I last had an Nvidia card :-)

Max,I'm happy with the 158.19 too, I'd rather enjoy the sim than the tech stuff these days. I've also been on both cards, last ATI, still running nicely was a 9800 Pro. Don't know if you had the commercial from, man, must be the 60's, for CERTS...'Certs is a breath mint, Certs is a candy mint...' Theplatform/vid card wars have always struck me that way. Some work for some, some ways :-)Regards,jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/]Windows utility links/FS 2004[/a]
