May 25, 200719 yr Hi everyone, have been having issues with trackir and fsx/vista - still not working despite numbers of attempts to tweek and reinstall.Have decided to install it on a separate xp boot (same HD)Have deleted everything to do with fsx on my vista boot, but over and over again when I install fsx on the xp boot, it won't allow me to validate it with the 25 digit code. Even more frustrating the fsx install (unvalidated) recognises and enables trackir, so if there' any clues about how I can get over the validation hump I'd be hugely grateful. Continue to spend too much time mucking around with this and not flying!Cheers. Leigh.
May 27, 200719 yr Leigh, I recommend you e-mail Vince at [email protected] about this problem. He has been very active in dialog with customers on the FSX main forum.Best wishes,Steve
May 28, 200719 yr Tks Steve, I've had heaps of emails and a long trans-pacific conversation with Vincent, unfailing patient and helpful, but nothing he's suggested to date has fixed this. At its heart I believe it's a Vista issue.Trackir operates fine even with an unvalidated install of fsx but nothing, just nothing I've tried can get it to work on Vista.Cheers. Leigh.
May 28, 200719 yr Wow...That really concerns me. It sounds like its an FSX issue as well as Vista. The reason your thread interests me so much, is that my FSX computer is just being finished by a private builder. We are dual booting XP Media Edition and Vista Home Premium. There have been some hardware problems in the construction, so I have been waiting patiently for more than a month. But long ago, I ordered TrackIR 4 with the clip. So I'm concerned about your problem.I have installed FSX on another computer at my office, but it is molasses slow, but I did not activate, because, I understand you only have "two bullets" in your gun. But what a ridiculous mess they have caused with this activation craziness!!!!!!!!!!!! The good guys who simply want to upgrade their computers or change OS have to go through all kinds of trouble. So sad. Leigh, I don't know what you have to do to reactivate, since I haven't crossed that bridge. But I think there is some phone number you call. I'm sure you know all about it. Some of the posts say that it is no problem once you get to Microsoft. But sounds like you can't even get to place where you make the call.I feel for you and hope you get it sorted out. I could be in your shoes very shortly. I'll be most interested in what you find is the solution.Best Wishes from Indiana,Steve
May 29, 200719 yr Tks for your concern pp, yep I think you're right, that it's a combination of two big microsoft programme changes, very impressive in their firepower, size, and what they can do, but with that probably comes a similar size, firepower and complex 'issues'!If you want the best tip of all with Vista, don't just think you can double click on a shortcut to a programme to open it, or lots else for that matter, you have to right click the shortcut and always operate as 'administrator'.. if I'd known that early on, it would have saved me much angst.Have had a breakthrough with Microsoft.. they've agreed (with HEAPS fewer objections and obstacles than I'd ever expected) to send me a replacement disk and validation code. Will keep you all informed of progress! Cheers from Sydney Australia.Leigh.
