May 27, 200719 yr If I shut my computer down for the night, just about every morning when I come in, she is running again. For example, I shut the computer down last night about 10:30 PM, and it was running again at 4:00 AM this morning. No, I am sure that nobody else is doing this and I have the time set correctly on the computer.I have all Bios options that I can recognize disabled that might perform this act. Standby and Hibernation are also disabled in windows and I am not aware of any other wakeup provision that is active.I thought it was Executive Software's Diskkeeper making a run as I had my "Set It and Forget It" automatic defrag setting during the time I had my computer off. This may still be what does it, but by making a setting for the next hour, and shutting my computer off, I have not been able to confirm this. It may require a longer off time, I don't know. The free version of AVG Antivirus was also another suspect, but the scheduled time in the free version is set firmly at 8:00 AM for it to do its thing. The computer has already started up well before that time.Has anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas?Respectfully:RTH
May 27, 200719 yr I had some issues with AVG. I switched to AVAST.AVAST has a free version thats been working for me for years, checks email etc. It updates itself when your machine is running. A dialog box pops up for a few seconds and goes away,"Your AVAST database has been updated", usually shortly after you turn on your machine.Every 9-12 month's you have to re-register. It warns you "click here to register". Sometimes a dialog pops up " A new vesion of AVAST is available, Click here to install", it does so in less that ten seconds or so and the dialogs goes away.On another note! When you first install AVAST make sure to check the option to install from boot up. Doing so starts a virus scan from the kernal then memory, then HD's etc. If you have any trojan horses, browser highjackers or any other crap it gets wiped out. At that point AVAST will install the itself on a clean machine. If you do a virun scan from the desktop icon it wont find any, it already been cleaned.I use it on customers machines that are infected with all kinds of junk that other virus software takes hours to find and sometimes doesn't.You will never see updates while flying!
