Graphic Card Assistance

Featured Replies

I recently began an update process of my system with the installation of a 6 quad m/board and a dual core processor. The next step will be graphic cards. Currently I run two nVidia 7900 gts in non-Sli mode. As a first step I was proposing to replace one of these cards with an 8800 and assess results. I assumed that the 8800 and the 7900 would co-exist with their individual drivers. After reading some of the posts on this forum, I'm not so sure. Could I just ask is my initial premise correct, ie will the 8800 run in conjunction with a 7900 on my XP system with a Kilo of power?Bud

You may find you wont get any increase in performance. I updateg my 7900 GS to a 8800 GTS 320 meg and gained no extra FPS,. Youd be better off buying the fastes CPU you can get it makes the bigest difference. Also most people that have tried SLI find it dosnt hepl at all and to use it both cards must be the same unless you are just using the 2 cards seperately to dive more monitors.

Thanks. I'm not too concerned with extra performance to be honest. I like the idea of having the extra vid. ram tho'.I do have quite a fast CPU. As I said in my post, I use the cards in non-Sli mode to run a number of monitors - six in total. I was just concerned from stuff I'd read in other posts that maybe an 8800 card would not co-exist with a 7900 even in non-Sli state. I can't quite see why they shouldn't but before I put the cash down, I really wanted some confirmation one way or the other.Bud

Anyone ???Bud
