Core2Duo versus QuadCoreDuo

Featured Replies

I have a question in regard to Core2Duo's & QuadCore's. I currently have a Conroe 6600 Core2Duo on a P5B-E motherboard and was wandering if I have to turn on something in the setup in FSX or the hardware to have it take advantage of the Core2 processor or does FSX automatically sense that the processor is dual core.I have read on this forum that the Core2Duo's are supposed to perform better than the other processor's that are not duo's. Is this were the SP1 mod comes into play? Also, if I were to upgrade to a Quad-core, approximately how much more would it cost to do so and what would be the advantages over my existing 6600...jack

You can verify this by opening windows task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and watch the performance tab to see that both cores are being used.>I have read on this forum that the Core2Duo's are supposed to>perform better than the other processor's that are not duo's.>Is this were the SP1 mod comes into play? The Q6600 will be about US$266 on July 22nd. The advantage over your existing 6600 is that FSX will load quicker, and that's about it. Don't expect more than a few % increase in FPS with such an upgrade - none of the dual to quad upgraders are reporting a great boost in that department.Gary

Have a look in the hardware forum (where this thread is no doubt going to be moved) - plentyof inf and benchmarks etc there. I went from an E6600 core 2 duo to a quad Q6600 and no performance gain in FSX.Andrew
