July 6, 200718 yr Hi, everyone ... been away for a long time and am now back to flight siming.I bought both the FS2004 and the 767 Level-D with dreams of flying glory. Without loading the 767, I cannot get FS to work. I begin to do a takeoff roll, the image on the screen freezes, there is about 1 sec of stuttering from the sound system and then the computer reboots from scratch. No error screens appear during this process. The specs of my system seem to far exceed the system requirements. Intel D945PVS boardPentium D 3.20GHz1022 Mb RAMDirectX 9.0cDiamond X550 video (256 MB)Hyundai ImageQuest L90D monitorXtreme Sound PCI cardI've updated my display and sound drivers. Nothing works. In all other respects, the computer works magnificently, even with a hog like Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.0 running.Any ideas? I'd really like to fly this machine again!Gnair
July 6, 200718 yr I was having all sorts of CTD issues with 3.71 a while back, that were completely rectified by moving up to 3.75. What version of FSUIPC are you running? Regardless, you may want to just upgrade to the latest version.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
July 6, 200718 yr Gary:Thank you so much for the reply. From the specs that follow it, I can tell that you are a power user (I haven't flown the sim for three years and then it was the Wilco 76).So, please treat me as a newbie when it comes to the software. I figured out CTD but don't know what the references to 3.71 and 3.75 mean (BTW, I did the FS upgrade to 9.1 and nothing changed on this problem). Also, if I'm running a FSUIPC, I'm not aware of it ... what is it?Keep in mind that I've not yet loaded the 76, only FS2004 (the century of flight version). Thanks for the help.Garyth
July 6, 200718 yr Never mind all that. If the problem was some software within FS, you wouldn't CTD, with an auto reboot. You'd most likely see an error message. This problem is at the heart of your system. I don't recognise that sound card, so that might be the cause, try flying with the sound off for a while to see, but most likely is that the power supply cannot take the demands being placed upon it by a sophisticated addon driving the gaming software that already pushes the power supply to its limits anyway. You get a power spike - and the computer automatically reboots.Monitor temperatures if you can - it might also be an overheating problem. Check and clean all fans and cooling devices. Ensure all vents are unblocked by cables and trunking, if neccesary take the case cover off and try launching FS like that - of the game doesn't crash at the same immediate point, you have shown the problem is heat.Allcott
July 6, 200718 yr Thanks, Allcott:I'll try the sound thing. The power supply should be OK but I'll check its specs (I purposely put in a larger one). As for overheating, the cover is off the machine so I don't think it is overheating.BTW, when the machine reboots, WXP gives me the following information:Error SignatureBCCode : 100000c5 BCP1 : 006C0072 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000001BCP4 : 8054A10D OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1 Files to be included:C:DOCUME~1GARYTH~1LOCALS~1TempWER3c56.dir00Mini070607-01.dmpC:DOCUME~1GARYTH~1LOCALS~1TempWER3c56.dir00sysdata.xmlMoving along ...G
July 6, 200718 yr Allcott:Genius! The sim flys with the sound off.Can I get it to recognize the card, or, do I have to buy a new card? If it is the latter, which ones does the AVSIM community recommend? With many thanks for your help!Garyth
July 6, 200718 yr Hi, again:Alas, alas, I spoke too soon. When I wrote the last email, I had successfully taken off with the old Megis field scenario and was successful. Anything more complex and the same reboots occur.I did monitor temps and when the CPU was running at c. 50%, it was running between 57 and 68 C. I cannot monitor what is happening when I run FS because it hogs up the whole screen so I cannot see the temp monitor. Also, when you say turn off sound, do you mean in FS (settings/sound) or do you mean to disable the sound card under the WXP control panel.I'll continue to look at the heat problem.Any other ideas would be wonderful ...Garyth
July 6, 200718 yr I wasn't trying to show off with power user talk, I was just trying to help and in doing so forgot to put the word FSUIPC in that first sentence. My apologies that you thought otherwise Garyth. Anyway, Allcott seems to have sorted you out, so I'll go back in my hole ;-) Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
July 6, 200718 yr Gary:That's the trouble with email ... no expression comes across and as a result, you took my words the wrong way ... I did (and still do) appreciate your reply and still want to know what to know what FSUIPC is, etc. The power-user comment had to do with the impressive array of software that you are using ... I really am in awe of that list and your obvious dedication to the flight sim idea. After I had indicated that the sound card was the culprit, the sim is back to doing the same thing (see my later emails). BTW, concerning acronyms, my best friend is a 76 pilot and we were out sailing on my boat and I asked him to watch the LFIs to make sure of his sail's efficiency ... he scanned the instruments (all two of them) and looked confused, so I then confessed that I was referring to the Laminar Flow Indicators ... the pieces of wool sewn into the sail to indicate airflow across the surface. It was fun to confuse a professional acronymer!Anyway, Gary, please do not take offense at what I wrote. I am a newbie and see a stiff learning curve ahead of me (####, I can't even get the airplane above 1000'!).All best.Garyth
July 7, 200718 yr No offence taken ... really :-)Anyway, back to my original suggestion, try downloading and installing the latest version of FSUIPC (instructions are in the zip file). It's a long shot I admit, but having the latest version is usually only a good thing.Here's a direct link: http://www.schiratti.com/files/dowson/FSUI...imestamp=010607Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
