October 10, 200718 yr Building new machine with 2 drives, only for Flightsim X.1 x Western Digital 150Gb, 10,000rpm RaptorSATA Hard Drive (for Flight Sim)1 x Western Digital 160GB, 7,200 rpm SATAHard Drive (for OS and other data storage)Is it better to have both FS and Vista on the same drive for best performance or split as above?Knowing that Vista takes a fair slice for itself I thought it would be better to keep it as the C drive 7200 rpm. which would mean it would be the master with FS on the high speed as a slave.Any thoughts pls.Trevg Trevor Golding
October 10, 200718 yr Trev,It all depends on how many add-ons you're going to be installing and how much your total FS 'space' is going to utilise. If your OS and total FSX install is going to come in at about 100GB or less I would install both Vista and FSX on the same Raptor (10K) drive and use the 7200 for data/backup other programs. If you have loads of scenery add-ons then these are best on the Raptor and if it takes you substantially over the 100GB you may need to think about Vista on the 7200 and FSX on the 10K.RegardsJim
October 10, 200718 yr Author Thanks Jim,Suspect I'll end up with about 80GB for FSX and roughly 25GB Vista. So may as well just get the one Raptor 10K.Backups will be on old machine.CheersTrevg Trevor Golding
