Memory Issue

Featured Replies

I've got an 6600 core duo with an ati 1650 graphics with 512megs of and 2 gig of DDR2-800 PC2-6400 ram. Is it worth it to upgrade to an additional 2gig of 800 ram dual channel or just buy a 8800GT graphics card at 512gig and call it a day? With the added ram, would I get more FPS running FS9 and or FSX? Motherboard is Asus P5B-E.jack

If you are running Windows XP, then 2GB memory is plenty. If you still feel the upgrade itch, then an 8800GT 512M card is the next logical step-up for your system, and FSX will show more benefit with this upgrade than FS9.Gary

Gary,Will the add'l 2 gig of ram be utilized in FSX only, or I'm I wasting my money buying it?jack

Again, if it is FSX + Windows XP + even a few addons, then you will be struggling to use more than 2GB physical memory. Not only that, but XP will not see more than 3.25GB anyway, so nearly half the extra memory will be wasted.Gary

Thanks Gary. I think I'll pass on the extra 2 gig and buy a 8800GT or the H3850 from ATI unless there is a better card out there for FS.Regards, jack
