Featured Replies

Hi all,I'm planning to build a new machine to make FSX run better. This is what I'm planning to do:(1) CPU: Q6600 or E8400(2) Video card: Redeon HD 3870 512 MB.(3) Case: CoolerMaster Cosmo 1000 (already bought)(4) CPU cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper TX2 (already bought)Items I need you guys' recommendations are:(1)Motherboard: I have $200 budget, OC capability is the fisrt prorioty. SLI capable is a plus.(2)Memory: I have $100 budget. 2GBx2 or 1GBx4 PC2 6400 or better.(3)PSU: I have $100 budget, must have sufficient power for further expansion like 2nd GPU.I need your help to make my decision. Thank you in advance.~ Charles

If you want very good overclockability but only 2 cores, go for the E8400. If you want less stuttering and faster loading in FSX, go for the Q6600.As for the video card, it is a very good card and I see no problems with it. The 8800 GT is slightly better, but is slightly more expensive and has slightly more problems than a 3870 :D.The motherboard, if you want to go for SLI (2 NVIDIA cards), then go for an nForce 650 or 680i. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813188012Which is right on the $200 mark and has excellent overclocking capabilities. If you want to go for CrossFire (2 ATi cards), then go with an ASUS P5******* series motherboard.4 GB of DDR2-800 cost me $108 (1 x 4 GB). The 2 x 2 GB config costs $124 on Newegg and I've heard 2 GB modules don't overclock as well as 1 GB modules and are still faulty since they're so new.A PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....tk=&srchInDesc=Browse through it.BoeingGuy
