February 24, 200818 yr My old P4 @ 3.0Ghz and PCI-only slots couldn't run FSX with more than 7-12 fps. I had post-SP2 blurries, I had stutters, and all kinds of problems preventing me to switch from FS9.Well, my MoBo just died. I was set to buy a new Mac Pro 8-core system, but not at this time. So, for a modest upgrade, I got a new MoBo with dual core processor, and loaned a good PCIe GPU from a friend (see my sig). NOW, it's flyable! I finally got to enjoy FSX, with smooth frames, nice colors, crisp textures! Weather, traffic, everything seems to be getting just right. So, I will finally be able to fly the sim, instead of desperately tweaking it.I'm very happy now with my FSX, and I'll probably start getting all FEX, ASX, and other X-s very soon. Maybe add more RAM. I wonder though, whether the performance improvement is on the side of GPU rather than CPUs? I couldn't find any conclusive reviews of nVidia Quattro FX 3400, but I'm horrified by the moment when I have to get it back :) Can anyone tell me what class is my GPU, so I will be prepared to replace it with a good card of its class?Thanks,=S.V.=Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2x2.2Ghz, 1Gb RAMPNY nVidia Quadro FX 3400 256Mb
February 25, 200818 yr That card seems to be using the same basic core as a Geforce 6800 card. February 25, 200818 yr Hi,The Quadro FX 3400 is a workstation graphics card; even though the specs may seem powerful, they are meant for working, not gaming, therefore an equivalent 6800 will give better performance. What OS do you have? Vista or XP? That can affect graphics card choice. Check out my guide athttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...35389&mode=fullHope this helps!Regards,BoeingGuy Regards, BoeingGuy ASUS P5E X38 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz on 1600 MHz FSB (400x8) | 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM | EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked @ 679/979 | 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 RPM HD
