March 17, 200818 yr Ok so I bought a new computer (laptop) yesterday and these are the specs:Windows Vista UltimateCentrino Duo T9300 2.5ghz 800FSB200GB HD2GB RAMNvidia Georce 9500M GS 512MBI have not flown for about 2 years and I have recently moved to Australia and thus left my FS2004 and other addons back home. Now that I have a new computer, I would like to get back to the FS world. My question is the following: Given my computer specs, is it favourable for me to buy FS2004 or FSX taking into mind that I will want to have most of the following addons:Squawk box 3 (vatsim)PMDG 747 -400PMDG 737-600/700/800/900Level-D 767Wilco 737-300/400/500PSS 777Flytampa sceneries (Dubai, San Francisco, Vienna.....)Aerosoft Mega Airport Frankfurt EDDF Swedflight sceneries (Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malm
March 17, 200818 yr The answer is that both will run well on your new laptop; FS9 with all settings maxed and any addon that you care to throw at it, FSX with a compromise of some settings to run some of the addons you mention and still get respectable performance, most notably the PMDG 747-400. How much of a compromise is really dependant on your personal taste.Of the addons you list, you will have to get updated FSX versions, some of which don't exist at the moment eg. PMDG 737-X, PSS 777, squawkbox3 (although FSInn is a good substitute while waiting for SB4) and those that do will obviously cost you an upgrade fee.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
March 17, 200818 yr Thanks Gary...So if I purchase FS9, all these addons will work regarding the fact that my operator is Vista? For example, PMDG 737 says it will run with XP only. IS this true? On the other hand if I get FSX, most will work but eventually an update or patch will be released for FSX right? In that case I will just purchase FS9 and wait a while with FSX.Amir
March 17, 200818 yr I can't say that all your FS9 addons will work in Vista, but if my experience is anything to go by the vast majority do work even if the addon developer says it won't. Well, they don't usually say it won't work in Vista, rather they say they will only support XP, which means if you run into trouble using the product in Vista you are on your own. Support forums are particularly useful for determining whether the user base has managed to ge an addon to work in Vista despite what the developer says.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
