Which FPS counter is telling the truth?

Featured Replies

Hi allI have a question: I use ATI Tray Tools, and have the FPS counter enabled. In FSX, it shows approximately double the FPS compared to the FSX FPS counter. As Tray Tools is set to a one second refresh, I wonder: Which one is telling the truth?I have FSX locked to 30, and when FSX is on the limit, tray tools displays 56-60fps. If I set FSX to unlimited, they both shoot up to over 80 at times, with occasional flashes over 100..The FPS counter doesn't really interest me a lot, it's nearly always turned off, but since I've discovered this quite by chance, I've become curious...RegardsGrahame

both, neither, take your pick.Different algorithms, counting different things, will yield different results.FS shows how many frames of animation the CPU produces, ATI no doubt shows how many times it refreshes the screen. It's quite possible for there to be a major difference between the two.It just shows your screen is running at a 60Hz refresh rate :)

Either way, it's a heck of a lot better than I get, and enough that you don't have to worry at all. I get ~5 at Charles de Gaulle.

NoobPilot, what are your system specs and your FSX Settings? I get about 22 FPS at CDG with every slider including traffic at about 80%.Here's a test. Set the FPS lock to 15. You will undoubtedly notice it is rather unsmooth. Now, if the ATi counter says anything over 25 FPS, it is inaccurate. 15 FPS is nowhere near a smooth as 25-30 FPS.Regards,
