Just got a new Computer and I have some questions

Featured Replies

Please any advice you can give would be great. Here are my specs (I copied them off the box it came in):Processor:Intel Core2 QuadProcessor Speed 2.4GHzSystem Bus: 1066MHzCache Memory: 8MB at die Level 2RAM: 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM (Expanable to 8GB)Hard Drive 750 GB SATA (7200 rpm)Graphics Card:NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GTVideo Memory 512MB (dedicated); upgradable to 1791MB total available graphics memoryOS: Windows VistaMS Flight Sim 2004Now here are my questions.1.) Does using some sort of RAMDISK work good with FS9 ? How do I use the RAMDISK? Where can I get a free software to install a RAMDISK?2.) What areas is my system lacking in? In otherwords if you were in my shoes (given a limited budget), what would you upgrade?Your wisdom is greatly appreciated. On a side note, last leek I got my Instrument rating!!!!! Whoo Hoo!! If the weather here in Denver keeps looking good (and my Flight Instructor reports back to work), I will get my complex rating in the Cessna 172 RG. I cant wait :)If any of you have the files for a Cessna 172 RG please give me a link to download them or zip em and email em to [email protected]

One other question I had as well. Someone told me that if you install your flight sim to lets say one of those pocket Flash memory cards from "Geek Squad" rather than your HD, you benefit from the USB 2.0 data transfer rates which I heard smoke any Hard Drive that exists. Is this True?????

Your set for FS9, dont worry about a ramdisk and USB drives are slower than your SATA HD.Enjoy your system. The upgrades others might do are changing the 8500 for a 8800 or 9800 Video card, and overclocking the CPU to 2.8 - 3.0 Ghz, to run FSX better, but for FS 2004 your fine.

Processor: Intel Core i7 [email protected]

Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX670 OC

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1866 [9-9-9-24-2T]

Motherboard: Asus P8Z68 Pro / Gen 3

Best Ever FSX Tip: Adaptive Vertical Sync 1/2 Refresh Rate

Well, It has to be my Video card then because I am still getting choppyness when flying with anything but clear skies. I doubt the computer on the Starship Enterprize could run FS9 or FSX. This is rediculous.
