q: using rear-projection TVs as displays?

Featured Replies

Hi,I started to post this in the cockpit builders forum but this one seems to get a lot more traffic, so...Currently I am using a front projection XGA Sharp LCD projector for my "windscreen" view. I have been toying with eventually going to three projectors for a more panoramic view (using Wideview), but with the prices of rear-projection TVs being what they are, I'm wondering how well those might work instead? (Advantage: less sim-room real estate required, since reasonably-priced XGA projectors have a fairly narrow focusable range, which is about 6'.)As an example, I just found a Hitachi 50" HD-format TV, with HDMI inputs and 1280x720 resolution, for about $950 - about the same as an XGA LCD projector. Is there any reason why this approach wouldn't work? One possible issue I can come up with is that the TV(s) would be much closer to the "pilot's" eye than in a normal TV viewing setup.Opinions? Thanks,Dave B.
