Shimmering Effect in FS9

Recommended Posts

Has anyone figured out how to eliminate the shimmering effect in FS9 with hardware changes or setting changes? I've tried just about every setting know to man, women or beast to solve this problem.I was just wondering if there has been any progress with hardware lately to stop the shimmering in FS9.Thanks

Yes, there has been much progress and I found the solution (at least with my system). It's very difficult to provide really good advice w/o knowing your system specs but I have the Dell XPS 720H2C with dual Nvidia 8800GTX video cards in SLI config. This solution may or may not apply in your case depending on your video adapter. In the Nvidia control panel, I simply change Texture filtering - Negative LOD to CLAMP. Clamp should be set if you have AF turned on. The default setting is ALLOW which provides higher performance but shimmering. BTW, this works for FSX too. I hope this helps!Best regards,Jim

Hollister,Have you tried to change the MIP setting in display settings in FS to 4 or 5? A long time since I used FS9 and I'm not sure about the label for this setting in FS9.Ulf B
