Colour calibration reverting to monitor's default in 3D

Featured Replies

Hi,I think, if I remember correctly, I resolved this problem in the past by checking "Disable low level color correction" under General Options in ATI Tray Tools. However, this doesn't appear to be working under ATT v1.3.6.1042 with the 8.9 Cats.A color calibration .icm profile created by Spyder2Express is loaded automatically at system startup and this appears fine for general 2D use, including photo image editing. However, as soon as I run 3D games in full screen like, for example, Flight Simulator or Space Shuttle Mission 2007 these settings are lost and the monitor( Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22" LCD Display Monitor (1680x1050x32) reverts to it's appalling default factory set blue bias. This situation remains on exiting back to the desktopand I can only recover the Spyder2Express profile calibration settings by reverting back to the Auto Balanced Direct 3D Profile in ATT. In fact, selecting any one of the 3 provided Direct3D Profiles in ATT achieves this result and, in this situation, will restore the Spyder2Express .icm color profile, but, again, only for 2D.It's a while since I've had to tackle this problem, so it's very possible I've forgotten to do something else in ATT to stop this from happening. I should add that I had no issues under the Cats 7.10 with ATT v1.2.6.964 and the "Disable low level color correction" fix worked fine and the spyder2express .icm colour profile was maintained on switching to full screen.I'm hoping someone here recognizes this problem and can help me fix or suggest a workaround for this issue.Thanks.Mike

Hi,Well, I have to say that after all this time I'm really surprised nobody feels able to respond to this one. Perhaps very few of you are using ATT in preference to ATI's CCC (which, I found, exhibits the same problem) or maybe no-one is running in 3D full screen (not likely), but instead prefer to run FS in full screen window where the monitor's custom calibration colour profile is preserved.I have updated to the Cats 8.10 and ATT 1.6.9.1368 but, sadly, this behaviour remains the same. It's a shame that the level of support for ATI Tray Tools is so poor - I posted over at the Guru3D forums on 25 October and the author, Ray Adams, has not felt able to respond. Regrettably, this does seem to be par for the course as many other posts for help have remained unanswered.Difficult to know where to go from here. This is particularly frustrating when I am sure there has to be a solution.Incidentally, the latest versions of ATT no longer allow any customized fan speeds for different temps to stick unless you save your settings to a profile and direct ATT to load said profile at startup. Perhaps the same applies to custom colour calibration profiles in 3D full screen but, if this is indeed the case, it is certainly not clear how to go about it.Mike

I've just posted the following over at the ATI Tray Tools forum under the Affiliates section of the Guru3D forums:"I have just realised today (14 Nov 2008) that I may have posted my original request for help in the wrong forum. If this indeed proves to be the case then my comments regarding the poor level of support provided are totally unjustified and I apologize to Ray unreservedly."Im my defense (if this can be defended) I would say that it is not clear to me which forum/s Ray does in fact visit. Anyway, I'm trying again for his help at the ATI Tray Tools Generic Discussion forum. Fingers crossed!Mike

Hi there!I shared your pain about a year ago. Photoshop and digital imaging is my other life (besides Flight Simulator) and monitor calibration is a must. I too use Spyder2 for calibration. I had such issues with ATIs CCC software, that I eventually went with an nVidia card. That was the only way I was able to solve it long term.If you have a program that allows you to see your startup entries in the registry, you can remove ATIs CCC and maybe ATT as a temporary measure. This worked for me, but I eventually missed the ability to use ATI hotkeys. So it was off to nVidia for me.I know this is not a solution you want to hear, most likely, but it is the onlt thing that worked for me.-- Outer Marker.

Hi Outer Marker,Yes, that occured to me too after I posted and following the 1 hour deadline for editing. Perhaps the majority of simmers are favouring nVidia cards at the moment. Not me, I love my Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB PCIE GPU and under that earlier version of ATT the colour calibration problem was resolved with that aforementioned switch.I remain hopeful that there is still a way around this. I would be loathe to ditch ATT as it's such a powerful utility in other respects. Thanks for responding. You have at least confirmed I am not alone.Surely others must have experienced this issue?Mike

What a bummer eh? I was going to also suggest going to the Profile Chooser icon that comes with Spyder2 software, and clicking on the calibration profile you wish to use to "refresh" the display. However, it's still not a permanent fix. I don't know about you, but I actually get a sick sense of pleasure from flying FS9 with a calibrated monitor. The colors are so much warmer and more realistic without that blue default cast on everything. You have a nice video card. I wouldn't change it either. I'm still running a very run of the mill nVidia 7600GS.Best of luck with your endeavour.-- Bryan

"I don't know about you, but I actually get a sick sense of pleasure from flying FS9 with a calibrated monitor. The colors are so much warmer and more realistic without that blue default cast on everything."Absolutely!Seems we are not alone, Bryan:http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm...&threadid=94054And, as I stated in one of my responses in that thread, why, as one poster has suggested, should I be forced to use yet another utility (Powerstrip) to correct a problem that is presumably all too familiar to the developers of the catalyst drivers?Again, I do have to add that it seems strange that there has not been more of an outcry from catalyst driver users about this problem. Could it just be that the majority of folk could care less about their monitor's colour calibration being accurate? If this is indeed the case, then they really don't know what they are missing. We read so many expressions of anxiety about the performance of our sims, particularly FSX, yet, for me, this calibration issue is the one factor that is currently actively discouraging me from firing up either FSX or FS9 :(Regards,Mike
