November 7, 200817 yr I want to replace my relatively old PC by building a new one, speciallly fit for FSX.I looked around already on this topic, but things change fast nowadays.I'm thinking of a Intel Core2 Quad CPU on a Intel P45 chipset motherboard, or P35, X48, X58 better? RAM 4GB DDR3.Graphics GeForce 9800GTX+ 1GB.Present monitors are Acer 19" TFT and a brandnew Samsung T240 (24" TFT, 1920 x 1200 pixels). For FSX, is Intel CPU better than AMD? And nVidia better than ATI? With which GPU?Rumours are that 64bit Vista would (still) give problems with hard- and software; still valid argument? Thinking of putting the 19" on the left for sideview and 24" front for cockpit and frontview. Other possibility would be 24" below for cockpit view and 19" above for frontview, switching views. What is advisable and how do I arrange that on my Graphicscard? Thanks a lot for advice.
November 7, 200817 yr I'm no expert, but seeing that no one has answered I'll throw my thoughts out here.CPUs: I would imagine that Intel is a bit better because of their headroom for overclocking. But I would wait until the end of November as that's when the new i7 CPUs from Intel will start shipping. And I also would wait until someone around here gets their hands on one and reports on how it does. Motherboards: the P45 (I think) is a great buy (if you're going for the now days processors). You can grab a P43 and save some money (no cross-fire). I wouldn't go P35 as they are older and not PCI-E 2.0, but I'm not sure how much of an impact a non-2.0 board is compared to a 2.0 one. The X58s are for the i7s.Graphics: overall quality nVidia wins using nHancer. Speed, ATI wins (4800 series) but has more blurries. (That's what I've found on my system anyways).
November 8, 200817 yr Intel is at present better tahn AMD get a 3 gig quad, or faster and fastes ram you can afford, 9800 GTX is great card a have 512 ver and does me well. Wish AMD would come up with a 3 gig quad but the 3.2 gig duao works fine
