I have downloaded the latest version of flight gear for windoze, but when I run it the dos box it is running in dissapears. If I try the command line it says it is running, I get the errorBase package check failed ... Found version [none] at: FlightGearPlease upgrade to version: 0.9.6any ideas

You probably don't have the base package, or your current base package is an old version, or your package is in the incorrect folder.

Hi Go to www.flightgear.org and download the last 9.6 version ready to run win 32 version. It is a good idea joinning the users forun.Regards

I thought this was what I had done!!!(clicked on the download for fgsetup-0.9.6.exe then ran after download)

If you double click on the "fgfs.exe" file in the FlightGear folder, then this is what I'd expect you to see.To run FlightGear, you should either use FGRun (this is what the shortcut in the Start menu points to), which will handle finding the base package itself, or launch fgfs (use a command line) like this:fgfs --fg-root="C:Program FilesFlightGeardata"FGRun is probably simpler and easier to use; I'd advise it unless you have an express reason not to use it; the command line gets quite long otherwise.Giles Robertson

initially I tried running using the program that lets you set all sorts of options. (what plane etc.)this put up a pretty picture of a plane... then closed itself.it printed up a command line that it said it was running so I tried that.. and got the error I mentioned

Have you tried uninstalling FlightGear, deleting everything in the FlightGear's root directory, then perform a reinstall? When you are running the 0.9.x binary, the version of the base package must also be 0.9.x. You can't run a 0.9.x binary with a 0.9.y base package. Also try moving all the folders in the base package directory to the FlightGear's root directory. See if that helps.

I'm trying to compile FlightGear-0.9.6 under win2000 with cygwin.I have built:plib-20041012-FGSimGear-0.3.7openal-cyg.tarcompilation works even if i get:checking long timezone variable... nochecking time_t timezone variable... nochecking values.h usability... nochecking values.h presence... nochecking for values.h... nochecking for _doprnt... nochecking for timegm... nochecking for GetLocalTime... nothe problem is at execution: Loading material RailroadInitializing Tile Manager subsystem.Initializing the tile cache. max cache size = 100 current cache size = 0 done with init()Tile not found (Ok if initializing)State == Start || InitedInitializing Aircraft structureAdding subsystem xml-autopilotAdding subsystem route-managerAdding subsystem loggerAdding subsystem guiAdding subsystem environmentAdding subsystem lightingInitializing OpenAL sound managerAdding subsystem fx ATC Display ATC ManagerOpened word data file ATC/default.vce OK... I have a similar problem (on XP SP2, command prompt box flashes up then exits) so I downloaded the base package (fgfs-base-0.9.6.tar.gz) from the shared directory from a mirror and unpacked it.It produced a file called "data" in the FlightGear base directory. When I click the fgsetup-0.9.6.exe which is in the FlightGear base directory I still get the same problem. I tried moving fgsetup-0.9.6.exe into the data folder but that didn't change anything.in the instalation FAQ 3.1 it makes reference to two other files in addition to the base file, fgfs-manual-X.X.X.zip, and fgfs-win32-bin-X.X.X.zip I've never been able to get into the ftp site mentioned on the FAQ can someone tell me if these are also needed and where they can be downloaded from because I can't find them on any mirror.ThanksRyan

OK, using fgrun.exe when I have selected an aircraft and airport and click run the command prompt box has a message "program too big to fit in memory"So I guess that answers my problem then.CheersRyan

This program does not work on my computer either, and it is XP service pack 2, with 512 megs of memory. The proram cannot find any scenery files at att. When I go to load the program goes to the splash screen then says cannot find the runway, or something to do with thrust, cannot find these files, or something about the loop or something. This program is seriously screwed I think for some computers. have the latest version. Thought the exe file was meant to be idot proof. You should not have to be a rocket scientist to be able to run this else it's not good. Seems not very stright forward to install at all.
