So what do you guys fly in FlightGear

I quite agree-HTML is light yrs away from 3D modellin'. And there's no space shuttle-its a UFO, if I remember right,...wait a sec----1 min later after checking the page--------------------------------SPACE SHUTTLE?ANTONOVS?WTFBy Jove, ur right! They ARE their. Guess I wasnt too up2date on that. >...indeed most aircraft are still under active development and even >the majority of more mature aircraft certainly also has minor >glitches...And yeah, I might as well inform the creator of the x-15.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>Have you actually tried playing with the rendering related settings?>Also, are there ANY console warnings or errors when starting up >FlightGear? I've tested all the settings, I guess the original one I set was best for fast perfomance (on my system). When I select the x-15 in the start menu, the DOS prompt sez (not the equal signs)-======================================================================WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-150.rgb' for reading.WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-151.rgb' for reading.WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-152.rgb' for reading.WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-153.rgb' for reading.WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-154.rgb' for reading.WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-155.rgb' for reading.WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-156.rgb' for reading.WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-157.rgb' for reading.======================================================================I think its a color problem. Some questions-i.D'you think 512 MB RAM will solve the problem of lag?ii.What is CVS, FDM? And where is the Flightgear wiki and Scenery Object Database?iii.I guess u need 3ds max or something like that for 3D modeling? something-thanx 4 guidancewingboy90

The Eurocopter, frankly speakin, appealled to me, but how dyou fly it? I switched on the turbines, and it just went round and round and round on spot...The color changer was fun, though, but my fav remains the f22 raptor and f16.

I found out how to do away with the lag. In the advanced>rendering>geometry section, you change the resolution to 320x340. The screen comes ultraa-small, and you cant see every bit of the menu, bu atleast my B52f flies fast(er)!Check it (the plane) out-its cool!

>>...indeed most aircraft are still under active development>and even >the majority of more mature aircraft certainly also>has minor >glitches...>And yeah, I might as well inform the creator of the x-15.I think some users also started documenting supported and lacking features for individual aircraft using the FlightGear seedwiki, so this may be a more appropriate place for your findings in the long run.> I've tested all the settings, I guess the original one I set>was best for fast perfomance (on my system). When I select the>x-15 in the start menu, the DOS prompt sez (not the equal>signs)-Well, unfortunately you keep providing only very limited information, without the corresponding details we won't be able to help you.>======================================================================>WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-150.rgb' for>reading.>WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-151.rgb' for>reading.>WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-152.rgb' for>reading.>WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-153.rgb' for>reading.>WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-154.rgb' for>reading.>WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-155.rgb' for>reading.>WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-156.rgb' for>reading.>WARNING: ssgSGIHeader::: Failed to open 'x-157.rgb' for>reading.>======================================================================>I think its a color problem. Well, in addition to that, are there ANY other console messages, too? Also, what startup settings are you specifically using?>Some questions->i.D'you think 512 MB RAM will solve the problem of lag?nope, probably not-what you are describing seems to me as if your hardware acceleration isn't working properly for FlightGear. However, it is practically impossible to provide any help as long as you get back to questions and requests only selectively.>ii.What is CVS"Concurrent Versioning System" - a source code management system that is used by the FlightGear project to maintain the latest development source code. More information can be retrieved by consulting wikipedia or google, or simply by searching this forum for "CVS".> FDM?In general, "Flight Data Models" are commonly referred to as "FDMs", that is, the configuration file that provides flight characteristics to FlightGear.>And where is the Flightgear wiki and>Scenery Object Database? In general, I would recommend to actually use a forum's in-built search facility before asking questions with possibly obvious answers, likewise the links you are looking for should be available at flightgear.org>iii.I guess u need 3ds max or something like that for 3D>modeling? yes, again: a search (or even simply reading some of the recent discussions!) would have brought up various relevant discussions. If you do search the forum, make sure to also search for "blender" to find related threads.

The best planes I have flown are-0.B1900, Beech 99, Piper J3 Cub (popular stars)i. Pilatus PC7, Seahawk (for the beginners and pros alike!)ii.F16 and A10 (for the ppl who like action w/o a learning curve)iii.Piper Cherokee Warior II, Piper J3 Cub, PD15 Thunderbolt (for slightly advanced flying)iv.Antonov AN-225 and B52 Stratofortress (when you r ready for the challenge!;> )v.McDonnell A4, ASW20 Sailplane,X-15 (a bad joke...)vi.Cessna Citation, all helicopters (another bad joke...)

The B1900 is indeed great, the insanely huge Antonov AN-225 Mriya is nicely modeled, (for me impossible to land... usually collapsing the nose gear way past the runway. Do any of these planes have thrust reversers? It'd be great if each plane came with some basic flight instructions.), the Eurocopter B105 is impressive, the new Cessna 150 seems accurate, the Dehavilland Beaver is great fun, but the plane I "fly" the most? The Boeing 737. Why? Well it seems to perform pretty realistically, it's shaped correctly, the animated parts look right for the most part, it can move right along or slow up for some squealing-tire touch-and-go practice. (I don't get too much into the serious/technical side of realistic training for actual flight stuff.) Maybe one of the main reasons I'm fond of the B737 is that I have had good success, and fun, creating texture maps that improve the realistic look about %1000. (Not to brag...but...)I fly around KSFO because it is more complete. And yes it's fun trying to land the helicopter on top of different buildings downtown. (Have you landed on top of Coit tower yet? I have. ;-) ) ...also fly around my little city here in Maine, (KPWM) sometimes checking out the biggest mountain in the Eastern U.S., Mt. Washington. (not so big), and have trekked to JFK and Montreal. You can download some of the texture maps, (I guess we call them "repaints"), I've made for the B737, (and the B707, which I guess is still a model that is a work in progress...hint, hint...), ....from a website I have here on my ISP. (link below)To my great disappointment, it seems my PC is too slow to run the new release of FG, (v 0.9.9). I do so want to see how the dynamic shadows work, and I need to if I am to continue improving the texture maps.(I have a circa 2001 Dell Dimension 4100, PIII, <1Ghz, 512k ram, Nvidia GeForce2 MX/MX400. Any tips on possiblity of speeding up, cheaply, appreciated!..Drivers are more or less up to date.)http://home.maine.rr.com/millerdesigns/ (scroll to the bottom of my page to get those repaints.) Good luck. (Rename the original texture map so you don't lose it.)

> the Eurocopter B105 is impressiveThanks. The 0.9.9 version has some extras: the help dialog (?-key) tells you how to change variants (mind your js trigger ;-), how to change colors (meant for development purposes) etc., and the bo105 settings dialog (Tab-key) does also offer some goodies. :-)>http://home.maine.rr.com/millerdesigns/ >(scroll to the bottom of my page to get those repaints.) Good>luck. (Rename the original texture map so you don't lose it.)Wow. Excellent repaints!m.

(Rename the original texture map so you don't lose it.)These look pretty good indeed. Have you considered releasing these textures under the GPL licence, so we could include them in the official release? I'm currently working on adding multiple texture support. For now only for AI traffic, but hopefully in the near future also for user selectable aircraft.D.
