Texture degradation

Featured Replies

Hi allI have a problem in that when I am painting textures, everytime I re open a texture for further editing and then resave it as a DXT3, I notice a gradule degradation of that texture, so if I edit the texture 5-6 times during a repaint it eventually ends up quite fuzzy. Would anyone know how to prevent this.Clive

Save as PSP ( Paint Shop Pro) or PSD ( photoshop ) format. that will preserve the layers as you have them and you can still edit them. Image tool will work with these formats to convert to DXT1 or DXT3 format or you can use the 32 bit format.Joe W.

Hi Joe WI take it to mean, that I save in PSP format until I have finished the final Edit and then save as DXT3?Clive

What I do to get around the texture degradation is to save each texture in .psd format like Joe said. Each time I make a modification to the texture I save it in psd, flatten the image (if using layers), then open the texture using DXTbmp or Image Tool and send it to the editor (in my case, Photoshop). Then I copy the original .psd image onto the new image imported from DXTbmp (norm.bmp) and save it then refresh it in DXTbmp. I always use that process each time I modify the textures always going back to the original .psd textures that I saved.I hope this make some sense.

You don't have to flatten it. Save it to PSD and MS's Imagetool will read it and convert it to what ever you want.Save some steps..Joe W.
