Helicopter repaints

Featured Replies

I'm new to Avsim, but not to FS, I'm working on repaints for some of the Heli's and I really want to repaint the R22 in FS2004, I'm looking for a little help in the way of a paint kit?, I've downloaded a few repaints for the R22, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how they were accomplished, Please help.Thank you, KandaceP.S. I downloaded a fix for the fuzzy paint in FS2004's Bell. I'm curious as to what causes this? I have some aircraft that could benefit from this as well. Thanks again!

Hey Kandace, nice to see you at AVSIM. The R22 doesn't have a paintkit that I have seen. I have painted it a few times and it is a little tricky as some parts/sides share textures (an MS deal). Here is a neat trick to find what is where if using PSP, make a copy of the texture folder, then open the texture with DXTBmp and send it to PSP, paint certain areas really bright colors, greens, hot pink, etc. then save, but do not close PSP, now reload the texture in DXTBmp and save as 32 bit, and yet again, do not close, start up the sim and you will be able to see what areas are what colors by the brightness. Since you didn't close PSP or DXTBmp you are able to go backwards and repaint it the way you want after seeing what is where. Saves a ton of time. The blurryness is usually caused by the texture having a hard time loading due to the mips, the fix in most cases is to eliminate the mips. When you load a texture into DXTBmp there is a preference to not include mips when saving.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmtnhelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters

Thank you very much for the repaint tips on the R22, I'll give it a try. Also the tip on the mips is really great, I did what you said and now I know longer have the blurries!!!. Now when I pop into spot mode they don't blow the illusion of really flying. I really appreciate your help. Thank you!Kandace :-wave >Hey Kandace, nice to see you at AVSIM.
