PAI bitmaps scale down and convert to gain FPS and save HD space

Featured Replies

Dear All,this is my first post on this forum so please be kind :)I have installed all the PAI packages and would like to gain framerates by reducing and converting the ai bitmaps.Ideally I would like to loose any effects and slowdown by scaling down and converting the ai bitmaps.I heard in another post I can create a batch file "imagetool -dxt1 -nomips c:whateverwhatever*.bmp"; here're the questions:1) is it possible to include a scale down by 50% in the batch file? if not, is there a quick way to do so? a program I can use?ideally a bmp dxt filter for photoshop would do: I can the setup a batch in photoshop.2) are there some bitmaps I should not convert? I heard of props not being correctly rendered.3) if it's not possible to scale down textures by using the imagetools batch, what about this? convert all the bitmaps to full not dxt plain bitmaps by using the imagetool's batch. Then scale them all down in photoshop with a batch command.then reconvert them to dxt1 (no reflections) by a second imagetools'batch.Would that work?thanks for your patience :)Luca

Luca, I have recently installed my FS2004 again and I am simply crazy about getting as many AI acft installed just to make the AI traffic more realistic. Now I've decided to reduce all acft texture down to a minimun including the default acft and any add-on freeware or payware because I fly only 3 acft (C208, Lear and PSS A320). Now, the process of doing that is what got me a bit confused. I see that you would rather convert the textures to DXT1. Can you tell me the benefits instead of DXT3? ANd what about this mip-map stuff? I read in another post that you must leave the "save with file" unchecked for a smaller size. yugo
