Reflective textures

Featured Replies

Hi,Some time ago I repainted a few aircraft with reflective textures. As I want now to repaint a refueler (a ground vehicle from hama) I cannot do this (I get transparent textures) or I dont't remember exactly how to proceed. That's dramatic... I know.Somewhere I forget the exact procedure. I want to have an aluminium texture or bare metail looking tank of the refueler of instead a white body.To have an idea of my early repaint, you can download it from my site: http://www.users.skynet.be/maximil/Maximil175.zip . It is a Marchetti S-260.How do I proceed now. Perhaps someone can find the fault:I open DXTBmp and load the bitmap.I make a copy of the (white) alpha and export it to PSP7... then I do it also with the bitmap. In PSP I copy the bitmap onto the white alpha and I get a grey looking image.I choose in Menu / Colours for Negative. Then also in Colours I set brightness + contrast and after this I can apply the changement onto the alpha in DXTBmp.In DXTBmp I can save the file to a bitmap in DXT3 format with alpha. I don't think I should apply the alpha on the bitmap... ?I am running FS2002 but it should work in FS9 too.I must forget an important thing. Please help. Jos

If its making the vehicle transparent, the chances are that it isn't set up to take reflections. It looks like you're doing the steps pretty much spot on, with the bmp open in DXTBmp import the alpha bmp and save it as either DXT3 or 32bit. Make sure that the alpha bmp has light shades of grey.. see if that helps :)

Hi,Thanks for your reply. At the moment I am bussy with another file of the same kind... but here is a _l and a _t file and I think also an Alpha encluded.Repainting now the bus with a livery of Jetair. As soon as I have finished the job, I let you know how the result is.Greetz. Jos

Hi,Making progress. Tried it on a bus.Once the Bus.bmp imported in DXTBmp, I create a black alpha (Menu / Alpha: Create Black Alpha) and once exported I open it in PSP7. There I make a layer above the basic and apply a grey texture. After that I import it onto the alpha in DXTBmp and save the Bus file as an extended bitmap format DXT3 with alpha.Have now a good reflection on the white bus.I will try it now on the refueler.Greetz. Jos

Hi,------------------------.... the chances are that it isn't set up to take reflections.------------------------I tried, but no result: the textures for the refueler become transparent. So, is it then impossible to change this ?I found some tutorials to create a chrome texture, but will it have the same aspect ?Greetz. Jos

Unfortunately not, when its created in gmax (or another program) each piece of the model is assigned to whether the alpha channel makes it transparent or reflective. The only way you could do this is to contact the author of the vehicle and ask if they could help you out. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
